Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-7-2018: World UFO Day

2nd July, 2018.

It’s official: I’m mildly depressed.

Know I’ve got to try and sort out some aspects of my finances, today.

Much as I’d love to stay in, playing pinball?

I know that’s not exactly what you call helpful.

I’m …

Well, I know I really do need to get these aspects sorted.

But very aware that getting distracted wouldn’t help.

And ALSO aware my emotional state is … worryingly bleak.

That’s ALSO unhelpful: and, in part, caused by my expecting a bad result.

I don’t know what will happen.

But, right now?

I’m not feeling good about it.

As a brief additional note … ?

I notice the BBC’s covering more stuff …

About Brexit.

Inevitably.

Personally?

I’m watching the on-going row the Cabinet’s having with …well, mostly the Cabinet … about watch plan is best.

I can’t help but think another referendum would be useful.

Complete with three or four options.

  1. Do we leave the EU with this deal?

  2. Do we leave the EU with that deal?

  3. Do we leave the EU with no deal?

  4. Do we stay in the EU, until we come up with a plan?

  5. Frankly?

I don’t see that last option being included in any realistic second referendum.

Much as I’d prefer to stay in.

    ~≈§≈~

The fact that — in all this? — I managed to get to see Black Panther, last night?

    Is almost incidental.

Can I suggest, though, that you see it?

    It’s rather good!

    Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Olga on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 2nd July is World UFO Day: according to some.   This one marks the day a UFO supposedly crashed: in which small, US city?
Q2) The other World UFO Day — 24th June — marks the day Keith Arnold saw a UFO.   In which year?
Q3) UFO’s are supposed to be shaped like a flying … what?
Q4) Gerry Anderson made a TV series about a secret organisation called SHADO.   What was the series called?
Q5) Finally … Which 1959 science fiction film was the first to deal with UFOs?
    Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 1st July is International Tartan Day.   Tartan comes from which country of the UK?
    A1) Scotland.
Q2) International Tartan Day is mostly marked where: Australia, North America or Argentina?
    A2) Australia.
Q3) Tartan Day — as opposed to International Tartan Day — is usually marked on which day?
    A3) April 6th.
Q4) International Tartan Day marks the day when a ban on wearing tartan was lifted.   The ban was lifted in which year?
    A4) 1782.
Q5) Finally … different tartans were worn by different family groups.   Whose extended groups were called … what?
A5) Clans.   (My family, if I’ve understood it … ?   Were linked to the Lindseys: and can get away with wearing this … )
    Here’s a thought …
“Anyway, I have to argue about flying saucers on the beach with people, you know. And I was interested in this: they keep arguing that it is possible. And that’s true. It is possible. They do not appreciate that the problem is not to demonstrate whether it’s possible or not but whether it’s going on or not.” Richard Feynman.
    And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

    Have a good day.

    *        I’m hoping I don’t get issues, either, Olga.   But it does bother I was able to get through with the default browser.   You should — as far as I know — only be able to get to sites like it with very specific software.   Somewhere along the line, someone’s done something!   Or a lighter technological side?   You’ve heard of Scunthorpe, yes?   It caused Google and AOL’s obscenity filters a problem or two …

†        It’s certainly odd, Debbi!   I remember reading — somewhere — that the cause of the problem?   Was Noah Webster.   Who, when he wrote his dictionary, decided the spellings needed a bit of … revision … !   Who knew … ?

    Q1) Roswell
    Q2) 1947
    Q3) saucer
    Q4) UFO
Q5) Finally … Which 1959 science fiction film was the first to deal with UFOs? I’m not sure about this question and wonder if there is something missing, as there are much earlier films about this, so not sure if you are referring to Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space or several Japanese films from that year, but even the Day the Earth Stood Still is earlier and has a lovely UFO…
I hope things go better than you think (beware of self-sabotage and foregone conclusions). Thinking of you and sending you positive vibes.

Interesting. I had no idea who was to blame for what Trevor would probably call the American butchering of the English language. :) I'm joking, Trevor. If you're reading this. :)

    1. Roswell, New Mexico
    2. 1947
    3. saucers
    4. UFO
    5. The Flying Saucer (but it was released in 1950)

"You’ve heard of Scunthorpe, yes? "

Certainly have heard of Scunthorpe. I was born there. I was born in Lindsey Street,Frodingham,Scunthorpe,County of Lindsey within the county of Lincoln. Oh by the way eBay also had the Scunthorpe problem for a while. You could not search for Scunthorpe United football programmes.
