Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd July, 2018

23rd July, 2018

Yep, I’ve got today off: and frankly?

House work beckons.

As does ironing shirts, washing pants, panicking about money, sending emails, putting teatowels on soak, and possibly a few other things.

Taking out my bin bags may be needed …

Or possibly needful.

I don’t know, quite yet.

Either way?

I may just have to catch a movie or something.

But what’s frustrating?

I’m a bit of a fan of a few TV shows.

Quite a few.

The fact most of them don’t have new episodes dropping?

Well …

~≈§≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 23rd July, 1632, saw three hundred French colonist leave Dieppe: bound for New France.   New France were the French colonies, where: North America, South America or East Asia?
Q2) A boundary treaty was signed: on 23rd July, 1881.   Between Chile and where?
Q3) 23rd July, 1974, saw the collapse of a military government: where?
Q4) The Second Constitution was accepted: on 23rd July, 1908.   By which Empire?
Q5) Finally … NASA announced the discovery of the planet, Kepler 452b: on the 23rd July, 2015.   The planet, and the star it orbits, are in which constellation?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 22nd July, 1937, saw the US Senate vote down the Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937.   The bill was supposed to introduce more what to the US Supreme Court?
A1) Justices.
Q2) 22nd July, 1894, was the date of the first Paris to Rouen race.   What kind of race was it: a boat race, motor race or snail race?
A2) A motor race.
Q3) Martial law was revoked, on 22nd July, 1983.   Where?
A3) Poland.
Q4) Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp discovered a what: on 22nd July, 1995?
A4) A comet: Comet Hale Bopp, if you must know. (I actually saw it, with my own eyes.)
Q5) Finally … actress Loiuse Fletcher was born: on 22nd July, 1934.   In which film did she play Dr. Lillian Reynolds?
A5) Natalie Woods’ last: Brainstorm.
Here’s a thought …
“I’ve seen a lot of women give up after they’ve had three or four bad gigs in a row. It’s very difficult to learn not to take nasty heckles personally.”
Jo Brand, born 23rd July, 1957.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s ALWAYS the way, Olga: sometimes, there’s too much content, and not enough time.   Although, I’ve got the reverse problem: I have time … and not enough content … !   I’ll have to have a poke around!   Hmmm … Actually, your mum might want to go the cheaper option.   Getting a streaming box that plugs into the TV.   (Mind you, some of the prices …!)

†        Yeah, I saw the news that Defense Distributed‡ had won their case, Debbi.   OK, there might be free speech support for the idea of publishing those online.   And I’m assuming that the group, themselves, will make damn sure anyone outside the US will be unable to pay the membership fees, and join up.   Which theoretically rules out me — in the UK — downloading the kit.   But with child pornography, and heroin, easy to get on the dark web?   Jurisdiction isn’t going to stop anyone.   (The screen grab’s a dark web drug sales site, taken on my machine: seconds ago.   Buying the gun designs would be just as easy.)

‡        The group’s Wikipedia entry tells us that the plans they distribute can be made by anyone with a 3d printer … and a computer controlled milling machine.   Those are expensive.   But will get cheaper over time.   The printer print the guns … and, I believe, the milling machines can make the bullets.   Gunpowder should be easy to source or make, if you know how …

I had a Fire Stick (I still have it but it does not work here in Spain. It seems here they use a more basic model, although I'm still hopeful they might upgrade at some point), but the TV is quite old and the image quality is not great now. She can watch content directly in her tablet already. Mind you, I read an article about the huge energy consumption involved in all the streaming of content and it is a reason for concern. I'm sure you'll find something to watch. Otherwise, there are always books...
