Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-6-2020: Docking Stations

29th June, 2020.

Yes: it’s Monday.

And yes, I am knackered … !

Frankly?

I’m blaming late night episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

Saying that … ?   And I’ve only been saying this for the past ten weeks?

One?   The show’s fantastic.

Two … ?   Natalie Dormer’s worked her rear off.

Three …  … ?   Nathan Lane’s the star of the show.

Whether there’s a second series, I don’t know.

But the producers will have to work, to match this …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 29th June, 1995, saw NASA’s Space Shuttle dock with Russia’s one space station.   Which Shuttle?

Here’s here’s an idea for low Earth orbit docking manoeuvres …
“Docking occurred at 9 a.m. EDT, June 29, using R-Bar or Earth radius vector approach, with Atlantis closing in on Mir from directly below.”
From NASA’s archived page on the mission.
And some footage …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Now, that’s not it, Olga‡ … Drat!   I think I’m going to have to look on BBC Sounds, they did a a thing about it … I think … !   That’s going to annoy me, now!
At ANY rate … ?   Thanking you for the best wishes.   I’m going to have to get a move on, as I’ve got to get the videos done … but hopefully … !
And you’re right: there’s always that one place we miss …

†        You’re right, Debbi‡, sometimes ten’s not enough!   How I manage to stop amazes me.   Oh, I caught the last Penny Dreadful, last night.   Wow!

‡        The amount of gongs Harlan got?   Is a point of contention, I think.   Either way?   I’ve added my name to the talk section …

Q1) Atlantis
Q2) Mir (I always had an ambivalent feeling about that space station and the expeditions because of its name. In Spain, MIR was the exam we, doctors, had to take in order to be able to carry on our specialization and become MIR doctors (medico interno residente). I never managed to pass the exam, which only took place once a year, and where there wasn’t a pass mark as such. It rather depended on how many people took the exam and how many posts there were. That was, in part, why I decided to move to England).
Q3) The United States
Q4) The Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, commonly known as Roscosmos (I quite like the name).
Q5) The first.
Don’t worry about the house, although if you find out, let me know. I’ve also seen one can visit Ruskin’s House in Coniston. A lovely place. I particularly like Keswick. Not as busy as Windermere (although Rose Cottage of Wordsworth’s fame is well-worth a visit. I was fascinated by his sister’s notes and comments). Oh, on the subject of today’s teaser, I wonder if you’ve ever watched this movie. I saw it on the telly here not long ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It seems it stretches things a bit, but it is not a too inaccurate picture of what happened.
