Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2020: Tennessee

1st June, 2020.

I think we can raise a couple of points, this morning.

Firstly?   I’m tired, again: although as knackered as usual.

I’ve actually managed to watch an episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and write a blog post about it, alongside the accompanying video …

And not hit the sack at two in the morning … !

I got to bed at twelve!

Either way, I’m tired: for a given value of ‘tired.’

I’ve woken up, this morning, wanting to go back to bed …

And with Lady Gaga’s Love Game banging around my head.

I don’t care if she wants to ride my disco stick, I just want her to shut up … !

Oh, just as a quick point?

I’ve just heard on the news that George Floyd — the man whose death has triggered riots in the US — was being arrested … for passing a potentially forged $20 bill.

A fake twenty.

He was killed for passing a hooky twenty dollar bill.

Jesus … …

How incompetent were those arresting officers?

And why on Earth didn’t the cashier check the bloody note?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Olga on nine..

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Tennessee was admitted to the Union: on 1st June of which year: 1796, 1798 or 1800?
Q2) It was which state to do so: the 15th, 16th or 17th?
Q3) What’s the state’s capital?

A1) Big Ben.

A10) The Elizabeth Tower.
Here’s a thought …
“All my exes live in Texas, and that’s why I hang my hat in Tennessee.”
George Strait.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Glad to be able to help, Olga!   I think links will work, regardless of the .pdf reader you’re using.   Embedding, on the other hand?   I know, when I looked at the — now deleted — version of Adobe Reader, yesterday?   It seemed to have a lot of (paid) plugins available.   I’d assume those would enable all sorts of features, in addition to the ‘Export to Word’ property.   (Splits screens are helpful, aren’t they … ?)
Oh … the clock face on the Elizabeth Tower has F’s instead of X’s.   It was a trademark of Augustus Pugin, the chap who designed the faces.   (Steve Jobs was as picky with the colour white: he co-designed some Mac models.)

†        There’s a couple of Steve Jobs movies, Debbi‡: 2013’s Jobs, and 2015’s Steve Jobs.   Guess who’s seen both?
Musically?   I have to admit, the OMD album I mention, yesterday, Architecture and Morality?   It was one of the first I bought, and it’s gorgeous!
Now, about Martha Jane?   Have you tried looking at her Wikipedia page?   I know we’re not supposed to rely on them, but the references are fairly good.

‡        Do you remember seeing the footage of the original Mac demo, Debbi?   According to the Steve Jobs movie, the one in the demo isn’t the 128k Macs they were trying to advertise, it was a prototype — and far more powerful — 512k machine.   It had a whole half megabyte of RAM.   My phone’s more powerful, but, for back then …

Q1) 1796
Q2) 16th
Q3) Nashville
Q4) Are you sure? Wikipedia says Nashville is the largest. (Nashville-Davidson here) https://www.tennessee-demographics.com/cities_by_population
Q5) Atomic bombs
Q6) The Volunteer State
Q7) Confederate (although it seems to the last to become a Confederate and the first to rejoin the Union)
Q8) The Blues
Q9) Nashville (I’ve always wanted to visit. Perhaps someday).
Q10) the mockingbird
I never noticed the F thing. You can't use Roman numerals and just change whatever you don't like, surely! It's like if I decided I don't like the letter b and I'll use a p instead. If I had paid for the clock I wouldn't have been pleased, that's for sure.
I only use Adobe Reader because I'm forever getting PDF documents and it's better than just the standard option (you can highlight and it allows you to sign documents as well, although some of the fancier features you have to pay for, but well.., we also want to be paid, so hey-ho).
By the way, I know I've mentioned it before, but I saw you talking to Debbi about the early Macs... After watching Halt and Catch Fire I always imagine it must have been something like that...
