Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-7-2021: The Great Fire of Rome.

19th July, 2021.

Yep: it’s a Monday morning.

And a day that looks like it could be glorious, again.

Weather wise, that it!

At any rate … ?   I’m due a phone call: from the Work and Health programme.

And another, an hour later, for the training course I’m on.

Busy, busy, busy … !

~≈Á≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* and Edith† and putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Edith on five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        The Great Fire of Rome started, on 19th July of which year: 63AD, 64AD or 65AD?

Q2)        The fire started in the area around the Circus Maximus.   The Circus Maximus was a stadium for what: chariot racing, gladiatorial matches or plays?

Q3)        Who was Roman Emperor, when the fire started: Caligula, Claudius or Nero?

Q4)        That Emperor was supposed to have started the fire, so he could build what: a palace, an aqueduct or a stadium?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who were the group responsible for fighting the fire: the Vigiles Urbani, the Cohortes Urbanae, or the Praetorian Guard?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th July is Mandela Day.   It marks Nelson Mandela’s birth, on 18th July of which year: 1917, 1918 or 1919?
A1)        1918.

Q2)        He grew up in Umtata.   In what’s now which province: the Eastern Cape, Western Cape or KwaZulu-Natal?
A2)        The Eastern Cape.

Q3)        He grew up speaking which language: Xhosa, Swazi or Afrikaans?
A3)        Xhosa.

Q4)        He campaigned against Apartheid.   Apartheid was the system of racial segregation, in which African country: South Africa, Zimbabwe or Rhodesia?
A4)        South Africa. (It was also used in what’s now Namibia.)

Q5)        He trained as a what: lawyer, economist or GP?
A5)        Lawyer.

Q6)        He was imprisoned for conspiracy.   At the what trial: Ribbon Trial, Rivonia Trial or River Trial?

Q10)        Finally … ?   There’s a statue of Nelson Mandela, where: Parliament Square, Trafalgar Square or Leicester Square?
A10)        Parliament Square.
Here’s a thought …
“After six days, the fire was brought under control, but before the damage could be assessed, the fire reignited and burned for another three days.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Great Fire.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, TELL me about it, Debbi!   I’m just thankful I’ve got the two large external drives!   And frankly?   I don’t think Nellie could keep up: she’s still running on petrol!
Now … did I mention this article from the Wall Street Journal?   Peppa Pig’s doing well …

†        I’ve got to admit, Edith, I miss Tetris Blitz: it was a speed version of the game that gave you a minute to play the game.   Did you know the Tetris music was based on an old Russian folk song called Korobeiniki?   The games maker’s realised a disco version of a folk song would be cheaper than commissioning something written especially.
