Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10th September, 2021

10th September, 2021.

Yes: I’ve actually got a busy day, today.

I’ve finally got  date for a diabetic eye test, this afternoon: up in Warley.

And have to pick up a Fit note from my surgery, this morning.

AND order some a repeat prescription along the way.

I THINK I’m going to be busy …

~≈👁≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: Olga, Trevor and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        10th September is the Feast Day of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino.   He’s a patron saint of where: Portugal, Spain or France.

Q2)        Dame Diana Rigg died on 10th September, 2020.   She played Olenna Tyrell in which TV series: Dr Who, Game of Thrones or The Avengers?

Q3)        The Lesser Judgement Day struck Constantinople on 10th September, 1509.   What was The Lesser Judgement Day: an earthquake, a volcanic eruption or a meteor strike?

Q4)        The Large Hadron Collider was first used: on 10th September, 2008.   The collider is an experimental what: nuclear fusion generator, quark detector or particle collider?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Which neutral country joined the United Nations on 10th September, 2002: Rwanda, Switzerland or Turkmenistan … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Edward Barnard discovered Amalthea: on 9th September, 1892.   Amalthea is a moon of which planet: Mars, Jupiter or Saturn?
A1)        Jupiter.

Q2)        9th September saw the death of Mao Zedong.   He’s been the communist leader of where: China, Cambodia or Taiwan?
A2)        China.

Q3)        Who became the UK’s longest reigning monarch: on 9th September, 2015?
A3)        Queen Elizabeth 2nd.

Q4)        Topol was born on 9th September, 1935.   He played Dr Hans Zarkov: in which 1980 film?
A4)        Flash Gordon.

Q5)        The late great Otis Redding was born on September 9, 1941.   He co-wrote (Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay with whom: Steve Cropper, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn or Booker T. Jones?
A5)        Steve Cropper.   (Cropper, Dunn and Jones were all members of the Jones led Booker T and the MGs: the house band for Stax Records.   All three played on the song.   Dunn and Cropper also played with the Blues Brothers: along-side MG graduates, Steve Jordan and Willie ‘Too Big’ Hall.)
Here’s a thought …
“For one moment seek
a lesser beauty
and a lesser grace,
but you will find
no peace in the end
save in her presence.”
Amaranth, by H.D. September 10, 1886 – September 27, 1961.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I didn’t know the Cathedral ran concerts, Trevor: I might have to poke my nose in.
PHEW!   I though you meant a full size loco for a minute, there!   That would’ve scared the mice out!
Oh, the Art of Noise worked with a Zulu group: although I think they weren’t in traditional gear in the video!

Yep: Topol’s in Flash Gordon, Olga: I last saw it a few years ago.   It’s definitely a bit … um … colourful.   Oh, Did you know Cropper was in Booker T and the MGs?   They were the house band for Stax, recorded Dock of the Bay with Redding: and were the backbone of the Blues Brothers.
At any rate … ?   You’re right: some sort of sleep/awake balance is always good.   Saying that … ?   I got an early one, last night.   I had a Clive Barker short to finish.

        Hello, Mum!

^        Oh, near your old neck of the woods, then, Debbi!?   Glad I was right, there!   I think I’m right that the other (humanoid) character in that opening sequence is Dejah Thoris from the Barsoom novels.   Oh, and Cthulhu turns up from the get go …

Q1) According to the article, it seems there is a place in Spain he is the patron of, although according to other articles, it seems he has many more followers on the Philippines

Q2) Game of Thrones

Q3) An earthquake

Q4) A particle collider

Q5) Switzerland
I hope you can fit everything in, and good luck with your eye test! I got my new glasses yesterday, supposedly adapted to both reading, and intermediate distance (computer screen). They will probably take a bit of time to get used to, but better than before, for sure.

Well a few days after that Model Railway exhibition in St. Thomas’ I was up in York at the National Railway Museum and saw a few full size steam locomotives. I was there for “The Great Gathering”. This was to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of “Mallard” breaking the world land speed record for steam locomotives. “Mallard” still hold this title. She along with 5 other sister locomotives were congregated together at the NRM. 2 of the locomotives had come over from museums in North America and had been given cosmetic make-overs. The 2 North American museum locomotives are now back in their North American museums.

Here are a few pictures.
