Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-8-2024 — What the EMF?

29th August, 2024: What the EMF?

Right … Thursday …

Is the day after Wednesday: but you knew that.

And the day after my Job Centre Case worker suggested a remote job I could apply for.

They even gave me a link to follow.

That lead to a page that said it would be ‘assess my system for compatibility’.

Apparently?

My recent model Mac isn’t compatible with their system, regardless of browser*.

And I can’t use the library computers: as they don’t have the webcams the site tells me I need.

I’m looking at the characters in Brazil, 1984 and Paranoia … and envying their easy life.

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Electromagnetic induction was discovered on 29th August.   In which year of the 1830s?

Q2)        By who: James Clerk Maxwell, Michael Faraday or Charles Darwin?

Q3)        The discovery shows you can generate an EMF in an electrical conductor in a changing magnetic what: field, force or fulcrum?

Q4)        More to the point, an EMF is an electromotive what: field, force or fulcrum?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The experiment that generated the EMF used two copper wires wrapped around an iron what: ring, cylinder or cube?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Belgrade was occupied on 28th August, 1521.   By whom: Ottoman Turks, Han Chinese or Kyivan Russians … ?
A1)        Ottoman Turks.

Q2)        Belgrade is now the capital of where: Serbia, Montenegro or Yugoslavia?
A2)        Serbia.

Q3)        Brian Wells died on 28th August, 2003.   After what went off: a bomb on his neck, a car bomb or a molotov cocktail?
A3)        A bomb on his neck.   He was trying to rob a bank: and had been told the bomb was a dummy.    The mind vaguely boggles …

Q4)        28th August is the feast day of Saint Moses the Black.   According to the Chalcedonian Church, he’s a patron saint of where?
A4)        Africa.

Q5)        Finally … ?   During World War One, Italy declared war on Germany.   On 28th August of which year?
A5)        1916.
Here’s a thought …
“Electromagnetic induction has found many applications, including electrical components such as inductors and transformers, and devices such as electric motors and generators.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Electromagnetic induction.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Something I’ve noticed over recent years?   Is that some individual webpages will only work with specific browsers, regardless of operating systems: usually the relevant versions of MS Edge or Google Chrome.   This webpage isn’t one of them: it flat out refuses to work with any of the browsers I tried, and tells me this is because I’m using macOS.

        Hello, Mum!

Who, me?   I’m glad you noticed, Debbi!   😀

Years ago, I took a course called "The Physics of Light and Sound". It was a course about science and art. I wish I'd kept my notes. :)

It was the first time I ever saw a hologram. That was interesting.
