Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11th January 2025

11th January, 2025.

It’s officially official: it’s Saturday.

And the day after I caught the penultimate episode of Silo, series two.

It’s a fascinating watch.

But there is a downside.

Some scenes are filmed in badly lit areas of the setting: and it doesn’t look especially good.

Hopefully, that’s something that can be remedied …

It’s not that often my home town gets mentioned on the news.

But my home town — or, at least, its local council — got mentioned by the BBC’s new website, yesterday.

It seems the local government ombudsman has accursed Brentwood Council of gatekeeping, of doing everything it can to not help homeless people in the area.

And of doing so, despite the two hundred or so relevant applications meeting the relevant thresholds.

I’m tempted to tell you several things.

That the council’s guilty as charged.

And that — as I mentioned in several posts, yesterday — was doing this because it:
  • Hadn’t invested in social housing, or …
  • Didn’t want the wrong sort of residents in town.

I’m tempted to say #BrentwoodCouncil’s doing this because they haven’t built enough #CouncilHousing. Or because the homeless aren’t #MiddleClass enough … Either way, I’m not surprised by this … www.inyourarea.co.uk/post/news/67...

I’m not, though.

Instead, I’m going to say one thing.

I’m not surprised by the news …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Bryan Robson, born born 11 January 1957.
And a song …

The next ten question set on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Oh, that’s Pau, Olga?   I wondered what he looked like!
I found the one where you’re interview the lady, Olga.   It amazes me what Image Playground can do with small images … !

‡        So long as it’s helping, Debbi, that’s the important thing!
Oh, do you remember getting your photo taken with Rick?   At a baseball game … ?   I’ve put the photo through the wringer … … …

Funnily enough, the image reminds me of a friend of mine, and I'd never thought we looked alike!
Oh, no surprises about the local council. It is the same (or so it seems) everywhere. Here, in the city at large, private property owners prefer transform their flats into tourist apartments, as they get much more money, and although the local government is trying to put a limit to it, they always find ways around it. And as per affordable property... It's more likely to see pigs flying... There are cooperatives set up to build flats at a reasonable price, but the process gets bogged down in paperwork, whilst big investors never seem to have any problems...

Well, that is different.

1. Muhammad
2. Mecca
3. Georgia
4. Brisbane
5. 1962

It's making a difference, but a very slow one.

Simply holding my left arm out in front of me to type this is painful. But I try to type as much as I can. I just have to pace myself.
