Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-2-2025 — The New Yorker.

21st February, 2025: The New Yorker.

It’s officially official: I’ve got an earworm!

“Horses”: the title track from Patti Smith’s album of the same name.

Why?

Well, I don’t know: I’d probably need to be a neuroscientist to tell you that!

~≈🦉≈~

Oh …

That’s news.

Apparently?   Barbara Broccoli and Micheal G. Wilson — the creative team behind the James Bond franchise — have sold the creative rights to Amazon.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about that.

But?

Can appreciate it’s going to provoke strong feelings.

Just like Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars.

Heigh-ho!

~≈🕵🏻‍♂️≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Yeah, that shirt does get attention, Olga: it’s been around for years.   You’ve heard of the Kray twins haven’t you?   The gangsters from the East End?
There’s a t-shirt of them that’s been doing the rounds for the same sort of time … …

‡        You know, The Bridge on the River Kwai’s another one I haven’t seen, Debbi!   Although I have seen the original Planet of the Apes: that’s based on Boulle’s other well known novel …

Q1) 1925

Q2) a magazine

Q3) Condé Nast

Q4) Issue

Q5) forty-seven
The Bridge on the River Kwai is shown regularly on TV and I've watched it more than once (not shown as often as The Great Escape, but one of those war movies that are often shown).
Yes, I know the Kray Brothers.
I finally went to watch the Brutalist. I wasn't sure my mother would survive such a long movie (over 3 and a half hours), but she did and enjoyed it (although some of the story isn't "enjoyable" as such). It is not light-weight, but I must confess that I've watched shorter movies that felt much longer. The break helped, although the movie is spectacular (not quite as an action movie, but there are beautiful shots).
On the other hand, my mother asked a neighbour about her husband (they have lived here since the building was new, like my parents, and they run the chemist next door for many years), a man who unfortunately had also developed Alzheimer's and died a few weeks ago. We went to the wake, and talked to his widow and the rest of the family, but my mother had forgotten all about it. I am sure I had mentioned my mother's memory problems to the neighbour, but of course she is familiar with that.

Sorry, I forgot to say yesterday, but there is a book fair organised (partly) by the radio station, and although I haven't been formally asked to go, I told the boss that I'd go and see if I could help. It is an all day event and there is also a performance in the evening, so I don't think I'll have time to visit.
