The Daily Teaser — 4-8-2015

You know, I like a good TV documentary, sometimes.

Well, BBC4 does knock out a good one, sometimes.

And, occasionally, will have them playing in the background as I post up the Teasers.

The reason I mention this … ?   Is simply that I have one on, as I write.

One BBC 4 aired, last night: about the WW2 operation that was Operation Mincemeat.

Just in case you didn’t know?   Mincemeat was an operation jointly organised by MI5, and an officer from the Royal Navy’s intelligence section: to convince the German High command that the Allies were going to invade Greece, rather than the obvious choice, Sicily.

By planting fake papers on a corpse, when making sure the corpse washed up where the Germans would find, or access, them.

The plan worked.

And the Allies went on to win the war.

But I tell you what …

You couldn’t make it up, could you?   Until you find out that, in 1950, someone wrote a spy novel, called Operation Heartbreak, about a fictional equivalent of the events.

Like I say … !

The Daily Teaser — 3-8-2015

Oh, that’s something.

Remember, a few day’s ago, I told you about the plans for the waste ground at the end of Saint James Road: just around the corner from my place.

Something I’ve personally always opposed: as I’ve felt the emergency vehicle access to my street is hard enough as things stand.

Adding any more buildings would make such access much more difficult: certainly during the building, and afterwards, as well.

After all, the increased in parked cars will also add to congestion — and delay — to the area.

Since writing that piece?   I’ve been told by both local councillors — Councillor Karen Chilvers and Councillor William Russell — that the most recent application for that ground …

Had been turned down!

Now, I’ve also been told — by at least one of them — that permission for any building work is expected to go through on appeal.

But both councillors have told me the signs have gone up extremely prematurely.

What’s to be done about that … ?   I couldn’t tell you.

But I seriously hope that appeal gets turned down.

Humans — Episode 8: 2-8-2015

Ooooh …

So that’s what the Humans finale looked like …

I don’t know if you’ve been following me for a while.

But if you have … ?

You’ll realise I write the Daily Teasers.

You know I like Dr Who.

And you’ll probably have realised I like the odd movie or two.

You’ll ALSO realise something else.

That, over the past few weeks?   I’ve been watching the Channel 4 science fiction series, Humans.

Hmmm …

Humans … … … …

The Daily Teaser — 2-8-2015

Now that’s given the me rampaging hump.

If you’ll excuse the phrase.

I have to confess to working, yesterday.   Which was a long, but generally ok, day.

The one BIG problem I had … ?

Was as I was due to clock off: I managed to serve one last customer.   It was a busy night, and I didn’t want to go, without trying to help get the queue cleared.

The till jammed on me!   At least, it froze.

With the result the customer’s order was wrong.   Not badly, but wrong.   As the screen that passed on the orders to the kitchen staff, and to the packers — who assemble, plate or bag the order as required — were seriously off.

The customer was pretty forgiving about things, as she’d seen what was happening as the till jammed.

The Daily Teaser — 1-8-2015

You know, there’s times I loved working nights.

Then there’s times I don’t.

Either way … ?

Either way, last night was one of those where I finished at 10:30.

And boy, I ’m grateful I wasn’t finishing any later than that.

Not that it was excessively busy.   Well, not for a Friday, anyway.

But … ?

Hmmm …

Have you ever felt that, sometimes, an evening will feel … odd?

Just have a plain old odd emotional tone?

That was how I was felling, last night.

The evening felt … odd.

Cie la vie … !
