The Daily Teaser — 16-8-2011

Hmmm …

You know, I’ve got to admit that — every-so-often — I like having the television on, in the background, while I’m writing up the Teaser.

You’ve probably worked that out already, haven’t you … ?

And I’ve got also admit, I’ve got a particular favourite on, at the mo: the free-to-air Yesterday.

They’ve an eye-popping documentary on, at the mo.

All about the contribution to the US war effort …

By notorious mobster, Lucky Luciano.

Like I say, eye-popping stuff.

Especially when you consider that the documentary blames that for the rise of the Mafia during the 1940s and 50s.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot … !

Lets get moving on, shall we … ?

Yes, lets …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Kaiju — all on his ownsome, as I think Debbi’s still mentally in the wrong time-zone — putting in his answers: and bagging 5 out of 6*.

Lets see how he — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video

Q1) 16th August, 1977, saw the death of Elvis Presley: what was his first UK №1?

Q2) 16th August, 1945, saw Puyi, last emperor of China. Where had the Japanese declared him emperor of, during WW2 … ?

Q3) 16th August, 1952, saw floods devastate which North Devon village … ?

Q4) 16th August, 1930, saw the release of the first sound cartoon in Technicolour: what was it called … ?

Q5) And finally … 16th August, 1949, saw the birth of the drummer who’s the only other long-term member — along with Iggy ‘Car Insurance’ Pop himself — of The Stooges: what’s his name?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 15th August, 1947, saw India become independent of the UK: who was its first PM … ?
A1) Jawaharlal Nehru.

Q2) Equally to the point, who served as it’s first Commonwealth Governor-General?
Q2) It’s last viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatten.

Q3) 15th August, 1914, saw the opening of which waterway … ?
A3) The Panama Canal.

Q4) 15th August, 1483, saw Pope Sixtus 4th consecrate the Sistine Chapel: who famously started work on the ceiling, in 1508 … ?
A4) Michælangelo: or Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, to give him his full name. (Typical cowboy painter, NEVER using their real name … )

Q5) 15th August, 1950, saw the Queen — then Princess Elizabeth — give birth to her second child: who was that child … ?
A5) Princess Anne.

Q6) And finally … 15th August, 1971, saw which emirate gain its independence from Britain … ?
A6) Bahrain.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll catch you later.

After I’ve played you this tune …

* Hmmm … I think I could’ve phrase Question 2 a bit better, couldn’t I Kaiju … ? I meant Governor General of an independent India … AHEM … !

Yes, I wasn't quite sure which one you intended. I suppose I could have listed both? I had both available! ;-D

It’s a bit of a tough call, I know … !

I DO know I’m partly blaming myself, badly phrased questions are the one guaranteed way to start a (metaphorical) riot.

Boy, my computer is SO slow, you'd think it was the one coming back from vacation.

I was at a writers group meeting that ran late last night, and between that and a sluggish computer ... I had to take a pass.
