The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 13-8-2014: International Left-Handers Day

Bloody HELL, but that’s a longer day than I thought it would be.

MOSTLY where I’ve been on the phone to the Department of Work and Pensions, chasing up my Mandatory Reconsideration, after the the disaster that was my mandatory Work Placement.

Seemingly … ?   I’ll find out what happens in — I’m told — after about two and a half weeks.

Basically … ?   It’s a case of “Hurry Up And Wait” …

There’s more …

You’ve worked out I’m a Dr Who fan, hadn’t you … ?

Well, I got a tweet, earlier.
Yep: series 8 starts at 19:50, in a week and a half’s time.

I’m looking forward to it.

But all of that … ?

Isn’t why you’re here.

No …

It’s Wednesday: which mean’s you’re here for the Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser.

*        All that means is that you’re free to copy, use, alter and build on each of my quizzes: including the Teasers, Gazette Teasers and the Friday Question Sets.   All I ask in return is that you give me an original authors credit on your event’s flyers or posters, or on the night: and, if you republish them, give me an original authors credit AND republish under the same license.   A link back to the site — and to the Gazette’s, if that’s where you’ve found these — would be appreciated: as would pressing my donate button, here.

†        Today is International Left-Hander’s Day.   As a southpaw, myself, I know fights for some forms of equality barely get noticed.   If I’ve understood the statistics correctly, you’ve a 1 in 10 chance of being left-handed: the same chance you have of being gay.   If you’re neither, you have a one in ten chance of being related to someone who is.   I don’t want to marry another bloke.   I DO want to buy a pair of left-handed scissors.   Just as a final thought … ?   I’m a southpaw, as I’ve already said.

I’ve grown up, as many others, knowing …
  • How a kid’s confidence can be undermined by teachers at school: using phrases like “Wouldn’t you find it easier, using your other hand?”
  • How quickly kids will throw around phrases like “Thicko” or “Spastic” when they see you placed in a remedial handwriting class.   (Kids are lovely, aren’t they?)
  • Quite how undermining disapproving looks from authority figures can be.
Some fights aren’t big: but still need fighting.
