The Daily Teaser — 13-7-2015

Ooooooooh …

But that’s BETTER … !

I mentioned, last night, I was exhausted: after a long weekend.

This morning … ?

I’ve woken up feeling tired — obviously — and thinking three things.
A)   That a cuppa would be bloody helpful.
B)    That last night’s episode of Humans was fantastic.
And C)   I’m Sorry, I Haven’t A Clue   is back on, tonight.
Go listen to I’m Sorry, I Haven’t A Clue.

Seriously … !

You’ll be listening to THE comedy … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* scoring eight out of ten: with Olga† letting us know how much she’d enjoyed yesterday’s videos.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) Somalia declared war on Ethiopia: on the 13th July of which year of the 1970s?
Q2) In the of the Treaty of Berlin — of 13th July, 1878 — Serbia, Montenegro and Romania become independent of which Power?
Q3) The Hollywood Sign was formally dedicated: on the 13th July, 1923.   What did the sign originally say?
Q4) 13th July, 1942, saw the birth of actor, Harrison Ford.   In which 1973, George Lucas film, did he first come to international prominence?
Q5) Finally … 13th July, 1793 saw the assassination of Jean Paul Marat: by Charlotte Corday.   Where WAS Marat: the bath, the toilet or the bedroom?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 12th July, 100 BC, saw the birth of Julius Caesar.   What was the name of the gens — the ancient Roman family — he belonged to?
A1) The Julia.
Q2) In which city was he born?
A2) Rome.
Q3) Which high Roman political office did he hold, in the year of his death?
A3) Consul.
Q4) When WAS that year?
A4) 44 BC.
Q5) Who was Julius’ first wife?
Q6) Julius was a member of what’s called the First Triumvirate: a three man alliance who ruled Rome for roughly six years.   Name either of the other two men involved.
A6) Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, also known as Pompey the Great and Marcus Licinius Crassus.
Q7) Famously, Julius won a series of military conflicts: in what the Romans called Gaul.   Gaul occupied territory in what’s now two European countries.   Name either.
A7) France or Belgium.   (Although parts are now in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.)
Q8) Julius famously ignited the Roman Civil War, by crossing which Italian river: the Tiber, Rubicon or Po?
A8) The Rubicon.
Q9) Julius introduced a reformed calendar: known as the Julian calendar in his honour.   It came into force in what we now call what year: 45BC, 44BC or 43BC?
A9) 45BC.
Q10) Finally … who, by the time of his death, had Julius named as his sole heir?
A10) The man known variously as Gaius Octavius, Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus, Gaius Julius Caesar Divi Filius, and Imperator Caesar Divi Filius: but who I’ll just call Augustus.   Or Sid, if you want easy …
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I’ve got a very peculiar sort of fame, based on being on the telly.   It doesn’t mean you have the lifestyle people expect.”

Private Eye editor, Ian Hislop, born 13th July, 1960.
And this tune …

Have a good day … !

*        Did I tell you they only ever had two UK hits, Debbi?   Which is a shame in way: as it left room for the (comparatively) tame Coast to Coast …

†        Glad you enjoyed them, Olga: I usually try — at least, for the themed quizzes — try to go for ones that are relevant to the theme.   That march was, apparently, all about Caesar: AND had entertaining visuals to go with it.   (Some of the Kinetic typography videos doing the rounds are equally as hypnotic …)

I see what you mean about the videos... I'm not sure I dare to watch the whole thing. Missed Humans so I must catch up. I love American Graffiti and think it has some fantastic music. Off to try and catch up!
