The Daily Teaser — 11-1-2016

JESUS!

I don’t know if I was ever a music fan.

Or a fan of David Bowie.

I DO know I, like many of us, had grown up on the man’s music: and thoroughly enjoyed the singles he’d put out over the years.

AND the few albums of his I’d bought.

I’ve woken up, this morning, and been shocked when I turned on the news.

David Bowie died, overnight, after an 18 month battle with cancer.

Someone who’d only released his most recent album on Friday — his 69th birthday.

I’m …

Shocked.

Wilko Johnson survived pancreatic cancer: one of the nastier forms of the disease.

How on EARTH could David Bowie not?

Either way … ?

My condolences go to his family.

I know I’m in shock: their grief will only be greater.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicensevideo … and something of an experiment …

Q1) 11th January, 2015, saw the death of actress and model, Anita Ekberg.   In which 1960 film had she found prominence?
Q2) 11th January, 1972, saw East Pakistan rename itself.   What?
Q3) 11th January, 1787, saw William Herschel first observe Titania and Oberon.   The two are moons of which planet: Uranus, Saturn or Jupiter?
Q4) Enver Hoxha assumed power as his country’s dictator: on 11th January, 1946.   Which country was it: Albania, Bulgaria or Croatia?
Q5) Finally … Surgeon, Sir James Paget, was born on 11th January, 1811.   Paget’s disease, named after him, is a disease of what: the heart, kidneys or bones?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 10th January, 1927, saw the original release of acclaimed science fiction movie, Metropolis.   Who directed Metropolis?
Q2) 10th January, 1996, saw King Hussein of Jordan make a visit to which country?
A2) Israel.
Q3) More to the point, which city did he fly to?
A3) Tel Aviv.
Q4) Media giant,Time Warner, was formed: on the 10th January, 2000.   Which of its divisions was originally owned by TV media mogul, Ted Turner?
Q5) Sir Clive Sinclair launched his famous — or notorious — Sinclair C5: on the 10th January, 1985.   What was the C5?
A5) An electric vehicle/bike.   (Or turkey, if you’re feeling nasty …)
Q6) Finally … 10th January, 1776 saw Thomas Paine publish the pamphlet, Common Sense.   What did it argue for: women’s suffrage, American independence or the abolition of slavery?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“We need action not words.”
Arthur Scargill, born 11th January, 1938.
This thought …
“But I’ve got to think of myself as the luckiest guy. Robert Johnson only had one album’s worth of work as his legacy. That’s all that life allowed him.”
David Bowie, 8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016.
This tune …

And this video …

RIP David Bowie …

*        Oh, we were talking about nostrils, Olga^?   I found this link.   Oh, my WORD, did you hear about David Bowie … ?   Shocking stuff!

†        I know I’ve been humming Hooray for Hollywood, ever since I heard the story, Debbi^.   (Oh, I found a reference, here … )   Now … did you hear about Bowie?   Good LORD … !

^        Oh, Debbi, Olga, about the experiment?   I’m checking that out: with the intention of NOT using it here on the blog.   It’s something that Joe Sturdy, over at the Gazette, has asked me to look at for the Weekly Teaser: I wanted to make sure it worked …

Some people don't seem quite of this world and it's always a bigger surprise when they die...
