The Daily Teaser — 6-1-2016

Right, I think I use Olga a bit of a thank you: her giving me the email for Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, has had a bit of a result.

As you’re probably very aware, just after Christmas, I managed to order a four terabyte internal drive: to use as a back up drive.

Which then got lost in transit.

!*

At ANY rate, Olga, bless her, managed to dig up the email address for Jeff Bezos: at least the one he uses so people can have a really GOOD whinge!

I sent Mr Bezos an email: explaining what had happened, and politely asking what on EARTH had gone on.

I got a reply, later that day: from a chap called Joe Ryan, working on behalf of Mr B.

Firstly?   He managed to reduce the delivery time: so, hopefully, the drive will be with me, by 1 o’clock, tomorrow.

Secondly?   He’s told that that, while he can’t pass on any results, he has passed on details of what happened to Amazon Logistics: the people who actually deliver stuff for the company.   That way, at least the company can say they’re doing something about the cock-up, even if it’s just asking what happened.

And as a final point … ?

They put twenty pound’s worth of credit onto my gift card balance.   Which frankly, has got me some bits already.

Either way … ?

That’s a result.   I don’t know if the blessed thing WILL turn up: but feeling a touch reassured about.

But will say this: Thanks, Olga!

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi† and Olga‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 6th January is the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas.   What’s the name given to this feast … in Western Christianity?
Q2) More to the point, Eastern Christian Churches call it … what?
Q3) 6th January, 2015, saw the death of actor, Lance Percival.   In which 1971 film did he play Bilius?
Q4) Congress chartered a national cathedral for the USA: on 6th January, 1893.   The cathedral is in which US city?
Q5) 6th January, 1992, saw the US Government advise doctors to stop using what: antibiotics, leeches or breast implants?
Q6) Finally … New Mexico was admitted as the 47th US state.   On 6th January of which year: 1911, 1912 or 1913?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 5th January, 2005, saw a team of scientists discover a dwarf planet.   What’s the dwarf planet’s name?
A1) Eris.
Q2) The US Embassy in Mogadishu was evacuated: on the 5th January, 1991.   Mogadishu is the capital city of which African nation?
A2) Somalia.
Q3) GSAT 14 was launched: on the 5th January, 2014.   By which nation’s space agency?
A3) India’s.
Q4) 5th January, 1934, saw the birth of sound engineer, Phil Ramone.   He and business partner, Jack Arnold, founded which record company: Virgin, Stiff or A&R?
A4) A&R.
Q5) Finally … 5th January, 1896, saw an Austrian newspaper announce the discovery of a new kind of radiation: by Wilhelm Röntgen.   WHICH radiation?
A5) X-rays.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Every time I get in front of a camera, I think of it as an attractive man I am meeting for the first time. I find him demanding and aloof — so I must do all in my power to interest him.”

Capucine, 6 January 1928 – 17 March 1990.
And this tune …

Enjoy your day.

*        These days … ?   Whenever I see an exclamation mark, I think of the Agatean Empire: which on Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, the the equivalent of China.   The Agatean equivalent of an exclamation mark … is a urinating dog.

†        Yeah: shame it backfired when he met the Queen, Debbi!

‡        Thanking you, Olga! That definitely helped!
