Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-112-2016: International Mountain Day

Oooh, but I’m starting to be annoyed by Sundays … !

Actually, no, I’m not: not really.

But I AM up early for work.

Which — obviously — means I’m feeling quite tired: after working late, last night.

The upside … ?

Is that I managed to read another chapter of LeGuin’s Tehanu: and loving each line.

Personally … ?

I think the cash spent on that …

Was cash well spent …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring six out of six in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 11th December is International Mountain Day.   The date was designated Mountain Day, by the UN General Assembly: in which year?
Q2) What’s the highest mountain on Earth?
Q3) Olympus Mons is the highest (known) mountain in the Solar System.   What planet is it on?
Q4) The standard UK definition of a mountain refers to something at least how high: 1000 ft, 2000 ft, or 3000 ft?
Q5) Under that UK definition, would Uluru — Ayers Rock — in Australia be considered a mountain?
Q6) Denali is ALSO know as Mount McKinley.   It’s in which US state?
Q7) Mount Mulhacén is the tallest mountain in Spain.   What mountain range is  Mount Mulhacén in?
Q8) Mount Slaggard is the tenth highest mountain in which country?
Q9) Mountain Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain.   It’s also Japan’s highest what?
Q10) Finally … Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland.   Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales.   Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England.   What’s the highest mountain in Northern Ireland?   (Northern Ireland: Not the Republic of Ireland, or the island of Ireland.)
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Which state became the twentieth to join the Union: on 10th December, 1817?
Q2) More to the point, what’s that state’s capital?
A2) Jackson.
Q3) 10th December, 1981, saw the BBC announce that many gay men in the US were being killed by a previously unknown disease.   What was/is that disease?
A3) HIV/AIDS.
Q4) Selma Lagerlöf became the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, on 10th December, 1909.   Which country was she from?
A4) Sweden.
Q5) Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat were awarded the nobel Peace Prize: on 10th December of which year?
A5) 1978.
Q6) Finally … The league of Cambrai was formed: on 10th December, 1508.   The League was an alliance of four countries: united against which Italian city-state?
A6) Venice.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Any road followed precisely to its end leads precisely nowhere. Climb the mountain just a little bit to test that it’s a mountain. From the top of the mountain, you cannot see the mountain.”
Dune, Frank Herbert.
And these three tunes …

Have a good day …

*        I’ll try and avoid it, Debbi!

Q1) 2003
Q2) Mount Everest
Q3) Mars
Q4) 2000 ft
Q5) I think not. Although it is higher than 2000 ft, that’s from sea level rather than in comparison to the surface… But, not sure. I love that they are called the Olgas, too. But I’ve never been.
Q6) Alaska
Q7) Sierra Nevada
Q8) Canada
Q9) Volcano
Q10) Slieve Donard
I hope your day isn't too bad today. Eventually, my mother's cold caught up with me but I hope it won't prevent me from being around much...
Enjoy your reading!
