Mr Robot — Series 2: Episodes 6, 7 and 8 — eps2.4_m4ster-s1ave.aes, eps2.5_h4ndshake.sme and eps2.6_succ3ss0r.p12.

19th May, 2017.

OK.

It’s a Friday.

I know.

And you’d THINK I’d be off at the pub, wouldn’t you?

I doubt it!

I’ve not actually drunk in years.

Besides?   Heading out implies having the money to do so.

And, after choosing to have a rather good fish supper from the local chippy — the Flying Fish, if you’re ever on Warley Hill — hitting the pub was extravagant.

Besides …

I had a few more episodes of Mr Robot to watch .

It’s getting good.

Episode 6 — eps2.4_m4ster-s1ave.aes — shows us Elliot (Rami Malek) is hideously trapped in his own head: hallucinating that his childhood is a 1980s sitcom: complete with a laugh track that only he can hear.

All this?   Whilst Cisco (Michael Drayer) picks up a router that can be hidden in the FBI’s temporary base in the E Corp building, and Agent DiPierro (Grace Gummer) chasing up leads.

Episode 7 — eps2.5_h4ndshake.sme — sees Agent DiPierro get suspicious of Angela (Portia Doubleday) after she finds her hanging around the 23rd floor.

It ALSO sees Mr Robot (Christian Slater) confessing to Elliot that it was they she’d shot Tyrell (Martin Wallström) … and being helped, in a very dark place, by Leon (Joey Bada$$): who is a Dark Army planet in the prison Elliot’s in … !

Episode 8 — eps2.6_succ3ss0r.p12 — is in the wake of an fsociety leak of an FBI e-conference: that shows millions of Americans are being spied on by the Bureau.

There’s more: Trenton, Mobley and Cisco (Sunita Biswas, Azer Khan and Michael Drayer) are shocked by Susan Jacobs (Sandrine Holt), E Corp’s lawyer, returns to her home: only to find it’s now an fsociety squat.

They’re shocked by that … and by Darlene’s decision to kill Jacobs with a TASER, and push her into the swimming pool.

It gets worse … !

Now …

Am I still enjoying this?

You betcha!

The multi-headed, hydra-like plot twists are great: as are the way we find Elliot is dealing with his painful reality.

Frankly?

The fact he’s now in prison is part of what’s keeping me watching: I want to know what has put him there!

The other bit?

Is Darlene, played by Carly Chaikin.

Ms Chaikin is playing Darlene* with a kind of world weary cynicism that’s very amusing … and hides the fact that Darlene — as we see in eps2.6_succ3ss0r.p12 — is finding killing as a method of solving her problem … ?

VERY easy to do.

All this?

All this and the fact I recognised at least one Unix‡ command in the midst of all the geekery?

Means I’m having a good night!

*        To paraphrase Bricktop†?   She’s a ruthless little shite, that girl!

†        A long time ago, someone did a Star Wars/Snatch mash-up: replacing sue of Darth Vader’s best known lines with some of those from Alan Ford’s signature villain.   Ever since then?   I keep thinking Stormtroopers are called Errol …

‡        OK, the ONLY one I recognise, so far?   Was the cd command, used in both Linux based systems, and in Unix based ones like macOS.   It lets you — when you’re using a Terminal command — change from one directory — what the rest of us call folders — to another.   (You know, that Wikipedia articles very handy: but gives me a better idea of what the command does, with different formats …)
