Mr Robot — Series 2: Episodes 11 and 12 — eps2.9_pyth0n-pt1.p7z and eps2.9_pyth0n-pt2.p7z

31st May, 2017.

Right …

That’s that done …

Hmmm …

I supposed I’d better tell you what I’m talking about, hadn’t I … ?

Jus in case you’re not one of my regular readers, my name’s Paul, I work in a call centre in Chelmsford — we take calls for social landlord tenants who need emergency repairs — and live in Brentwood.

I’m an ex-pub-quiz-master who writes the hopefully entertainingly Daily Teaser.

I’m someone getting annoyed by the amount of calls from the kind of call centres telling me I’m entitled to a PPI compensation, or compensation for an accident I had, or that I’ve won a Morrison’s voucher.

I’ve had about five, already, today.

With one or two?   I’ve answered the phone, but just not talked to them.   They get bored and hang up.

But I’m thinking I should get a football referee’s whistle.   I’ve had half a dozen calls like that: one of them is going to get a headache …

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, one thing I do, when I have time off — along with sweeping, laundry and washing up — is catching a film, or a TV show.

Tonight?

Tonight was a TV show.

Tonight was the last two episodes of series two of Mr Robot.

And yes: the techno-geeky that’s my current fave?

And ended on another tense note.

Episode 9 — eps2.9_pyth0n-pt1.p7z — shows us the aftermath of the raid that got Cisco killed.   Agent DiPierro (Grace Gummer) is convinced this is part of a larger plot by the Dark Army hacker collective: and shocked when she finds out the US government has been given a $2 trillion dollar bailout by China.

Meanwhile?   Elliot (Rami Malek), helped by Mr Robot (Christan Slater) has decoded an anonymous message he’s been sent.   Only to find that it’s been sent by Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström.)

Who everyone thinks is dead …

Episode 10 — eps2.9_pyth0n-pt2.p7z — flashes back to many months: showing us Tyrell begging Mr Robot — and Elliot — to be part of whatever it is they’re planning.

Winding forward?   Tyrell has taken Elliot to a very discreet warehouse: where Tyrell’s planning on bringing down E-Corp’s document corp.

Meanwhile?   Meanwhile, Agent DiPierro is questioning Darlene (Carly Chaikin) … and, in order to get more co-operation from fsociety’s pro tem leader?

Showing Darlene exactly how far along the investigation is.

Worryingly for Darlene?   It heads back to Tyrell and Elliot …

Now …

Have I enjoyed this second series of Mr Robot?

You betcha.

One school of thought, though, tells us that finding Elliot is an unreliable narrator means we can no longer trust him.

We know he’s tricking us: that we cannot believe what he tells us, and that we need to believe the truth is other than what he tells us it is.

Personally … ?

I don’t know if that’s necessarily an argument I’d agree with.

I’d argue, instead, that — in this day of the internet — we watch the series with half an idea we’re going to be tricked.

In other words, we go in with the idea that Elliot is a magician.

We watch in the knowledge that he’s going to trick us: and that we’re going to see a trick well done.

That’s what earning Sam Esmail and the rest of The cast and crew, their applause.

Series one?

We watch Elliot and friends pull a rabbit — or a dog, at least — out of a hat.

Series two?

Series, and having seen the rabbit, we go to see a lady — or two of them, Darlene and Angela — get sawn in half: one by the FBI and one by White Rose.

We go, in other words, to see a trick: and see a trick, done well.

Series two of Mr Robot is very well done …

I’d like to see series three.

I want to see the Dark Army Water Torture trick …
