Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-8-2017: Wolfenden.

Hmmm …

I’ve just had a look at the BBC’s news website.

And … ?

Right at the moment, the main headline’s about South Korea having a live missile firing exercise.

There’s also news that President Trump, and the White House, are throwing around words like ‘military,’ and ‘massive military response.’

Things look — to borrow from Orwell — plusungood.

Personally?

I’m quietly hoping this will blow over.

No, really: I hope we could be facing a storm in a teacup.

Right at the moment?

I’m thinking all it would take is for the wrong person to press the wrong button, and we could be in trouble.

Because one man accidentally drops a bomb* …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 4th September saw the publication of the Wolfenden Report.   In which year of the 1950s?
Q2) It was published by a committee headed by Lord Wolfenden: and 14 other people.   Name one of those 14 people.
Q3) The committee started meeting, when: 1954, 1955 or 1956?
Q4) The committee looked into homosexuality.   And what else: street prostitution, drug taking or pædophilia?
Q5) The report recommended decriminalizing homosexual behaviour between consenting men: over the age of what?
Q6) The two groups of people the report covered were given code names: taken from a well known UK biscuit makers.   WHICH biscuit makers?
Q7) Name any one of the three gay men who gave evidence to the report.
Q8) Finally … the reports recommendations about homosexuality were put into law: in the Sexual Offences Act of which year?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Which diarist was put on the train to Auschwitz: on 3rd September, 1944?
A1) Anneliese Anne Frank.
Q2) Britain declared war on Germany on 3rd September, 1939.   Who was the Prime Minister that made the announcement to the UK?
Q3) 3rd September, 1943 — four years after declaring war on Germany — British forces started their invasion of where: Germany, Italy or Japan?
A3) Italy.
Q4) Qatar became independent on 3rd September, 1971.   What’s the country’s best known TV company?
Q5) Finally?   The first person to drive a car over 300 miles per hour, did do on 3rd September, 1935: at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.   Who was that man?
Here’s a quote from the Report …
“We recommend: — i) That homosexual behaviour between consenting adults in private be no longer a criminal offence.”
From the Report of the Departmental Committee on Homosexual Offences and Prostitution (The Wolfenden Report.)
And the one song I felt appropriate: for understandable reasons, Bronski Beat were big LGBTQ campaigners.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a nice day.

*        OK, that ‘tell me all About the Nuclear War’ line got me posting that.   But the video always makes me wondering what Eddie Tenpole was smoking!

†        Befuddled is certainly the word, Olga!   There’s memes about it!   And I have to admit, I never actually saw The Witches of Eastwick: I keep meaning too, but … !   At any rate … did you ever see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus?   Tom Waits as the Devil is something to catch!

‡        I think, Debbi, we can say he’s got more issues than the Wall Street Journal … !   And sharing his name with a slang term for Columbian Marching Powder doesn’t help!

Speaking of interesting, I'm mulling over writing a story that would involve time travel! A thriller, actually. I was thinking of writing a script, but thought I might do a book before the script. We'll see! :)
