Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th April, 2020.

29th April, 2020.

In the immortal word’s of Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

“Yes … … it’s raining.”

It’s decidedly unpleasant, in other words.

Frankly?

I’m going to have to go out and pick up shopping in this lot!

And, equally as frankly?

I’m not looking forward to it!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga†, David‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with all four scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 29th April, 1901, saw the birth of Japanese Emperor, Hirohito.   What name was he called: after his death in 1989?
Q2) 29th April say the birth of former sportscaster, David Icke.   He’s better known, these days, as a what theorist?
Q3) Hair had its Broadway debut on 29th April.   29th April of which year of the 1960s?
Q4) 29th April, 1957, saw the birth of actor, Daniel Day Lewis.   He won his first Best Actor Oscar in 1990.   For which film?
Q5) Finally … ?   The US army began Operation Frequent Wind: on 29th April, 1975.   The Operation was their evacuation of which city?   (The city fell a day later …)
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Maryland ratified the US Constitution: on 28th April of which year?
A1) 1788.
Q2) It was also admitted to what, on that date?
A2) The Union: theUSA, in other words.
Q3) In so doing, Maryland was the what state to do so: ninth, seventh or fifth?
A3) Seventh.
Q4) During the US Civil War, did Maryland fight for the Union or Confederacy?
A4) The Union.
Q5) The state was founded — in part — to provide religious toleration to whom: Muslims, Jews or Roman Catholics?
Q6) The state was named after whom: Henrietta Maria, Mary Queen of Scots or Mary of York?
A6) Henrietta Maria, wife of Charles 1st.
Q7) What’s Maryland’s capital?
A7) Annapolis.
Q8) What’s Maryland’s largest city?
A8) Baltimore.
Q9) The Maryland Bobcats, Baltimore Blast and FC Frederick are Maryland teams: that play what?
A9) Association Football: Soccer, as it’s known in the US.
Q10) Finally … ?   Which research University was founded in Maryland’s largest city, in 1876?
A10) Johns Hopkins University.   (I know an old friend, David, has been organising quizzes for friends and families.   David, this is one of those questions that I suspect many will get wrong: as most of us will guess as Harvard or Yale, or possibly UCLA.)
Here’s a thought …
“Unite your total strength, to be devoted to construction for the future.”
Hirohito, 29 April 1901 – 7 January 1989.
And some Duke Ellington …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, cheers, Trevorª: that’d be a handy starting point … !

†        Tell me about it, Olgaª.   As I recall?   Jean Reno, Leon, himself, crops up in the original Nikita: he’s the Cleaner.   (We feeling ok, this morning?   Lock-down’s getting to everyone!)

‡        Morning, Davidª!   (You know, if you’re still doing quizzes for you friends and family?   I suspect that Johns Hopkins one will prove to be tough: I think most people in the UK will have heard of Harvard or Yale, but not mush else.)

^        The Mason Dixie Line’s not that far north, is it, Debbiª?   Good lord!   And I didn’t realise that about DC.   Being splat in the middle of enemy territory could’ve been awkward!

ª        I don’t know if it’ll grab you, but I’m listening to a Neo-Swing playlist on Spotify: it’s rather good!

Thanks, Paul. So far, not so bad today. Some plans afoot for future deescalation of the confinement. Fingers crossed. It isn't raining here yet, but it isn't looking too good. I hope your shopping trip is not too bad.

"Refulget labores nostros coelum"

A1 Shōwa

A2 conspiracy

A3 1968

A4 My Left Foot (was 1989 not 1990)

A5 Ho Chi Minh City then known as Saigon

The start is the original Latin motto of the Borough of Scunthorpe. It was later changed to 'THE HEAVENS REFLECT OUR LABOURS'. The coat of arms ceased to exist after the creation of North Lincolnshire council in 1996. It was a very interesting coat of arms.
