Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st January, 2021

21st January, 2021.

Right: it’s a thing.

I caught a video on TV, last night: the Snowgum Films version of Terry Pratchett’s Troll Bridge.

I’ll have my written — and video — review, done, tonight.

But have to say, it’s fantastic!

~≈👹≈~

I’ve been talking about the twenty pound uplift to Universal Credit, over the past few days: the one introduced last April, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite a vote in Parliament on Monday?   The extra money is due to end on the 31st March, this year.

I’d rather it didn’t.

It’s a handy thing to have, and has given me extra money towards bills, rent, arrears, shopping … and the occasional iTunes card, and Amazon purchase.

Which reminds me, I need toe nail clippers.

At any rate!?   It’s a useful amount of extra money.

One due to end soon.

I would prefer it not too.

As — according to this report from the BBC? — the cost of living’s going up.

If you can mention that to the Chancellor, I’d thank you.

~≈💰≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw David*, Trevor†, Olga‡, Mum^, Debbiª and Edithº putting in their answers: with David, Trevor, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        21st January is the feast day of Saint Demiana and the 40 Virgins.   In which church: the Coptic Church, the Roman Catholic Church or the Church of the SubGenius?

Q2)        21st January, 2020, saw the sad death of Monty Python member, Terry Jones.   Three of the films he directed, were banned in Ireland.   The Meaning of Life and Monty Python’s Life of Brian were two of them.   What was the third?

Q3)        21st January, 1976, saw the birth of recovering Spice Girl, Emma Bunton.   What was her nickname, whilst a member of the Spice Girls?

Q4)        21st January, 1922, saw the birth of actor, Telly Savalas.   In which Bond film did he play Ernst Stavros Blofeld?

Q5)        Finally … ?   21st January, 1793, saw the execution of Louis 16th of where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        20th January, 1946, saw the birth of director, David Lynch.   In which US state?
A1)        Montana.

Q2)        His first feature length film was released in 1977.   What was it called?
A2)        Eraserhead.

Q3)        Lynch has made three series of which TV show?
A3)        Twin Peaks.

Q4)        Who played the Elephant Man in Lynch’s The Elephant Man?
A4)        John Hurt.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Lynch has frequently worked with Angelo Badalamenti.   Angelo’s a what: editor, composer or cameraman?
A5)        Composer.
Here’s a thought …
“I’m just a kid from New York who looks like everybody else.”
Telly Savalas, January 21, 1922 – January 22, 1994.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Pleasure, as ever, David!   (Yes: we know you’re David.   At least, me and Trevor know you’re David.   So do Debbi, Mum and Olga.   Edith’s just found out you’re David.   We ALL know you’re David!)

†        Patsy AND k. d, Trevor?   Well … !   At any rate: a lesbian couple I know actually met at a k. d. lang convention.   Funny how these things happen.

‡        It was the bits and bobs we discussed about Basic Income, Olga!   Patsy Cline I know very little about.   Although I understand she managed to scandalise Nashville, by wearing trousers!
And there’s another singer I’ve not heard much of, Van Morrison!   Apparently, ‘Van’ is a contraction of his middle name!

^        Hello, Mum!

ª        Eraserhead?   Strange?   Play fair, Debbi, it IS a David Lynch film!   Did you ever see Chained?   By Jennifer Lynch?   There’s a girl that takes after her Dad!
Oh, I meant to say, yours came through a couple of weeks ago!   I think the delay’s due to the Brexit hold up: I knew it was a bad idea.
And yes: he’s in.   What annoyed was the TV coverage.   When Gaga started singing, I turned off the TV!

º        Well … the Devil’s bit is a fiddle part, over a funk bass line, Edith: I think it’s what they used to call a walking bass line.   The bass player’s fingers are ‘walking’ up and down the strings: if that makes sense?   I think a lot of old Blues — and country songs — based their rhythm guitar parts on the sound of trains.   I could be wrong, though!

I'll never forget walking around Brighton (the Lanes) one evening, and there was a busker playing Little Brown-Eyed Girl. He seemed not to know anything else, because we walked around a few times (it's a bit of a maze) and we kept coming across him, and he was always singing the same song (and yes, I have brown eyes (with a bit of green), so I'm quite fond of the song).

When I was over there Donna ( a 6 foot tall first native and ex lover of Patsy) and I used to go to big sports events. Dona taught me the main rules of Ice Hockey and I taught her the Rules of soccer. We both knew the rules of CFL (The Canadian version of NFL).

Great fun being just behind the plastic screen protecting the supporters from the Ice Hockey puck. Certainly up-close and personal with the players.

At all sporting event the two of us usually consumed a great amount of beer. With some food as well. Foot long hot dogs!

Speaking of tech problems, I just love when a webinar screws up and the speaker references things I can't even see.

It's okay. Most of what he's saying is stuff I've heard a few hundred times before. :)
