Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th May, 2021.

8th May, 2021.

It’s official: Brentwood West, the council ward I live in in?

Now has William Russell, a Conservative, as councillor: and has rejected Karen Chilvers, the Liberal Democrat councillor.

I’d’ve preferred a Green Councillor, and couldn’t vote Tory if you paid me.   But Wil’s pleasant enough.

I’m just grateful Karen Chilvers is out of her post: she, it seems, is the person responsible for organising leaflet deliveries in the area.

Something I’m distinctly angry about, having had three very unwanted leaflets, over the past few weeks.

That … ?

And the fact she was on the Council planning committee that made a mess of the local mobile phone mast?

Makes me grateful she’s gone.

As a brief extra thought … ?

I’m jobhunting, at the moment: and signed up to various job agencies websites.

One — called Indeed — sent me a warning email, this morning.

It seems one job I applied for — for a company calling itself Rapid Recruit — has been flagged by Indeed’s security team: and a message sent out to any one that’s applied.

Warning us to NOT hand over any further details.

And that we should not pay for a job.

Sound like whoever’s using the Rapid Recruit name is just a little suspicious …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡, Debbi^ and Edithª putting in their answers: with Olga and Trevor scoring five out of five, Mum and Debbi on four, and Edith on three.

Let’s see how they, and you, does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        The Famous Players Film company was founded: on 8th May, 1912.   It’s better known as which studio: Paramount, Universal or Warner Brothers?

Q2)        8th May, 1980, saw the World Health Organisation announce what had been eradicated: AIDS, Smallpox or Bubonic plague?

Q3)        8th May, 1945, is VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day: marking the end — in Europe — of World War Two.   It marks the surrender of which country’s army: Germany’s, Italy’s or Japan’s?

Q4)        8th May, 1926, saw the birth of Richard Attenborough’s brother.   Who is that brother?

Q5)        Ronnie, Reggie and Charlie were arrested on suspicion of Murder: on 8th May, 1968.   Ronnie, Reggie and Charlie, who?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        7th May saw Vladimir Putin named as President of Russia.   7th May of which year?
A1)        2000.

Q2)        His first presidential term ended in which year: 2003, 2004 or 2005?
A2)        2004.

Q3)        Between 2008 and 2012, Putin was Russian what: Prime Minister, President or Chancellor?
A3)        Prime Minister.

Q4)        Putin is a former officer in what: the CIA, MI5 or KGB?
A4)        The Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti, Committee for State Security, Комитет государственной безопасности, or just plain KGB.

Q5)        Finally … ?   As President, Vladimir lives in the Senate.   That Senate is in which Moscow ‘K’?
A5)        The Moscow Kremlin.   (The word Kremlin means ‘Fortress.’   The best know part of the Kremlin — complete with the onion domes — is Saint Basil’s Cathedral.)
Here’s a thought …
“I was the only calm one in the house. You see I've been shot at by experts.”
President Harry S. Truman, May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972, after surviving an assassination attempt.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        You’re right, Olga: US gun laws are a mess … !   If I’ve understood it — and Debbi will correct me, here, I’m sure — the Second Amendment was supposed to guarantee that people could defend their homes: if the English invaded …
Oh, cheers for the Tweet about TIE fighters, by the way!   (You know, I’m convinced Ive’ seen ‘gemelo,’ as a name of something!)

†        I saw the balloon, Trevor: I’m tempted to head to Hartlepool with a pin.   On a personal front?   I’m just glad Karen Chilvers is out of office.

‡        Hello, Mum!

^        What can I tell you, Debbi?   Except that the Second Amendment needs … updating.
Oh, I found this … … (I think they’ve updated the Wirrn.   Oh, and Erato’s got a big … you know … THINGIE!)

ª        Oh, thank you, Edith!   I’ve got to admit, I learn a lot, myself!

Well, I hope it works out OK for the local council. Here, in Catalonia, they are still trying to come to an agreement as to who runs the community. In the meantime, it's quiet (at least compared to other places. Not sure that's good, but well...)
Oh, gemelos is also the Spanish name for "cufflinks", among other things, but you might have heard that (it makes sense, I guess).

Yeah, you're right about the Second Amendment, I'm pretty sure. I'm not a constitutional scholar, but generally, I'd say that's about right.

I don't think Britain wants us, anymore. :) Does anyone? :)
