Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31-5-2021: World No Tobacco Day

31st May, 2021.

It’s officially the case: I’ve been reading … a book!

Well … there’s not much to do, at my place!

At any rate … ?

I’ve started reading Hallie Rubenhold’s The Five: her biography of the five acknowledged victims of the anonymous killer known as Jack the Ripper.

I’ve finished the section about his first victim, Mary Ann ‘Polly’ Nichols.

Polly ended up separating from her husband: losing her home in the process, and developing a drink problem, as a result.

It’s sad to read.

Especially when you realise so many lives are still like that, today …

~≈🗡≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡, and Edith^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Mum and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Edith on two.   The day also saw Trevorª leaving a message or two.

Let’s see how they, and you, does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        31st May is World No Tobacco Day.   It was officially created by the UN: in which year of the 1980s?

Q2)        The main commercial form of the tobacco plant is what: Nicotiana tabacum, or Nicotiana rusticum?

Q3)        According to many warnings?   Smoking tobacco is bad for your what: health, garden or walls?

Q4)        As of 2017, which BRIC nation was the world’s leading tobacco producer: Brazil, Russia, India or China?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Smoking causes what: HIV/AIDS, Cancer or Leprosy?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Director, Zowie Bowie, was born on 30th May, 1971.   Zowie is better known as whom?
A1)        Duncan Jones.

Q2)        The Gazette de France was first published on 30th May, 1631.   It was France’s first what: newspaper, cookbook or Bible
A2)        Newspaper.

Q3)        Rafael Trujillo was assassinated on 30th May, 1961.   He’d been dictator of which Caribbean republic?

Q4)        Helen Sharman, the first Briton to be an astronaut, was born on 30th May, 1963.   Helen’s a what: chemist, physicist or biologist?

Here’s a thought …
“Many species of tobacco are in the genus of herbs Nicotiana. It is part of the nightshade family (Solanaceae) indigenous to North and South America, Australia, south west Africa, and the South Pacific.” From the Wikipedia entry on Tobacco.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’ve been trying to avoid annoying Trevor for the past two decades, Olga!
At ANY rate … !   That fair sounds a little lick the Lighting Up Brentwood event we get, every Christmas.   The High Street gets blocked off, the local radio station does a big event, and there’s plenty of stalls around.
And why on EARTH there’s nothing like computer stall, in Brentwood, I don’t know!   I think there’s been a few local groups that do something similar … but they’re not easy to find …

†        Hello, Mum!

‡        Hang on, Debbi … the cheese factory does ice cream … ?   Oregonian cheddar must be really versatile!
Is it just me … ?   Or does Aussie rules football look like Rugby for ballet dancers?   The players all seem to be very good movers …
Oh, the Docker’s sheild is a pair of crossed anchors: I almost thought it was the West Ham logo, for a minute.

^        Argh!   YouTube does it again, Edith!   I’m sorry about that!   At any rate, look up The Blues Brothers, and car chases, if you get the chance.   The famous one goes through a shopping mall.   I’ll never look at Elmo in the same way, again!

ª        I’ll try and have another look at the scores, today, Trevor, but can’t guarantee it.   I WILL be re-writing the thing for future use, though: based on the links you’ve provided …

Q1) 1987

Q2) Nicotiana tabacum

Q3) Health (although if you smoke indoors, it isn’t great for your walls either. I’m not sure about the gardens, but I don’t think plants in general like smoke).

Q4) China

Q5) Cancer
Yes, it does sound similar to what goes on in Brentwood. Here they are quite active and keep having a variety of events. I think we have at least three outings booked for June (I mean the radio station. I'm not sure if I'll be able to join all of them, but we'll see).
I think the community centres and facilities are a big help, as many of these groups and associations can find meeting places there and offer a service as well, and other people who use them get to know about what they do and spread the word. The culture of associations and cooperatives is quite strong in the district, and most know of each other's work, so if they can help or make suggestions, they happily collaborate and join together for bigger projects. Many do struggle (and some of the older participants were telling us that they find it difficult to get anybody to replace them), but there are also young people getting involved in some of the projects, and hopefully, some of the people who were helped might remember and contribute... (I'm not an optimist by nature, quite the opposite, but it is important not to underestimate the efforts of individuals).
I hope Trevor is appeased. ;)

Tell Debbi that is the Cheese factory. Penny and I visited it in early September 1998. We went for a one week holiday in Oregon whilst on a 3 week holiday in Vancouver Canada. Passed near to the Vancouver in Washington State USA as we toured up the Columbia River on the Oregon side.

Cheese and proper Ice cream are both made from rich creamy milk, so not a surprise that they are both made at the same place.

Other Cheese factories that I have visited include one in Wensleydale.

That’s got me thinking, Trevor, I’ll have to — possibly — try Wensleydale.

Without thinking of Wallace and Gromit …

Hi, Paul, It is okay that the song from yesterday didn't play. The movie clip from today was good.

The song Tobacco Raod song was good too.

Here is a song that I like https://open.spotify.com/track/1Nxs0vSrGLX0qS586E0NxS?si=4b7715bfb0f44a6a

OMG! I love Wallace and Gromit! :)

Here's a thought. I do a world book tour. At various cheese factories! Why? Because I like cheese, ice cream, and other fattening dairy products. :)

1. 1987
2. Nicotiana tabacum
3. health (probably not good for your garden, either)
4. China
5. Cancer

And while I'm at it, I'll arrange a signing at the Brentwood Library! Would that be great or what? :) (Tell Trevor I said hi! Hi, Trevor! Are you there? :))
