Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th July, 2021.

29th July, 2021.

It’s sunny, for once.

Sunny!

Which is good.

It means I can complain about the sunshine, AND the lack of rain.

After complaining, a few days ago, about a distinct lack of rain.

Don’t you just love it, when I get contradictory!

One of my favourite bands, when I was younger?

Were American blues/rockers, ZZTop.

I’d never seen them live — I’m told they were fantastic — but know they did some fantastic albums, singles and videos.

You’ve possibly noticed I’m saying were, and did.

Sadly, bassist Dusty Hill, died last night: at the age of 72.

He’ll be missed: by legions of fans, by lovers of Texas Boogie … and by anyone that appreciated the fact ZZTop were that rarest of things: a band that survived, with the same lineup, for fifty-one years.

RIP, Dusty: you’re going to be missed.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Mum†, Debbi‡, putting in their answers: with Trevor and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        29th July, 1953, saw the birth of director, Ken Burns.   He directed a 1981 film about which New York landmark: the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge or Central Park?

Q2)        Dancer, Paul Taylor, was born: on 29th July, 1930.   He’s best remembered for what type of dance: modern, jazz or tap?

Q3)        Actor, David Warner, was born on 29th July, 1941.   In which TV series did he play Abraham van Helsing?

Q4)        The discovery of Eris was announced: on 29th July, 2005.   It’s the second largest what in the solar system: moon, dwarf planet or asteroid?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The BBC’s Light Programme was launched: on 29th July, 1945.   Name either one — either one — of the two stations that replaced it, in 1967.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Sutton Hoo Helmet was found: on 28th July, 1939.   It was a what period helmet: Anglo-Saxon, Viking or Celtic?
A1)        Anglo-saxon.

Q2)        At the very start of World War 1, 28th July, 1914 saw Austria-Hungary declared war on where: Croatia, Serbia or Estonia?
A2)        Serbia.

Q3)        Peru declared its independence: on 28th July, 1821.   It’s independence from where: Spain, Portugal or France?
A3)        Spain.

Q4)        Vinnie Ream became the first — and youngest — female artist commissioned by carve a statue for the US government: on 28th July, 1866.   Who was the statue of: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Thomas Jefferson?
A4)        Abraham Lincoln.   It’s the one in the US Capitol Rotunda, if you’re ever in the area.

Q5)        Finally … ?   28th July, 1915, saw the birth of accordionist, Frankie Yankovic.   Is he related to Weird Al Yankovic?
A5)        No.
Here’s a thought …
“To be good is to be forgotten.   I’m going to be so bad I’ll always be remembered.”
Theda Bara, July 29, 1885 – April 7, 1955.
By a huge co-incidence? Bara’s name was an anagram of ARAB DEATH … !

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’m doing to have to read that one, Trevor.   I do know I’ve read one of the Jorj X. McKie stories: it’s in my copy of Eye.

        Hello, Mum!

‡        Oh, THAT it does, Debbi, that it does!   (Oh … Inversions and Goldfinger have been delivered.   I think I’m going to need scaffolding to hold my To Be Read pile up!)

A1 Brooklyn Bridge
A2 modern
A3 Penny Dreadful
A4 dwarf planet
A5 Radio 1 and Radio 2

The book that follows it is called Whipping Star.

You may have noticed that I have been sharing a load of music from my teen years on Facebook.
I did follow pop music but mainly bought records of Classical music.
I have always been different to most of my peers.

The first thing I saw David Warner in was Time After Time, in which he played an unforgettable Jack the Ripper!
