The Daily Teaser — 10-12-2014

You know, I really HATE to go on about it: but I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

Assassin’s Apprentice, I should add!

The tale of FitzChivalry Farseer, growing up in Buck Keep, as the illegitimate son of the heir to the throne, and training as an assassin, are both beautifully written, and a depth I’ve rarely encountered.

It’s rare I get to call a book gorgeous: but it’s gorgeous.

And one I’ll happily hand out on World Book Night …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* — herself an author, keeping pace with Robin Hobb with her latest release, Invisible Me — putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 10th December, 1979, saw who do a jump over an 50 foot drop, on a 400 cc motorbike?
Q2) 10th December, 1817, saw Mississippi become the 20th State of the Union.   What’s Mississippi’s state capital?
Q3) 10th December, 1884, saw the original publication of Mark Twain’s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn.   What was the title of Twain’s next novel?
Q4) Which East Asian country became a constitutional monarchy, on the 10th December, 1932: Vietnam, Thailand or Japan?
Q5) Finally … 10th December, 1914, saw the birth of Dorothy Lamour.   Dorothy appeared in the Road To … movies with Bob Hope: and who else?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 9th December, 1979, saw the World Health Organization certify the eradication of which disease?
A1) Smallpox.
Q2) 9th December, 1993, saw NASA astronauts repair what?
Q3) 9th December, 1968, saw what computer scientists call The Mother Of All Demos.   This saw the introduction of the Mouse, hypertext and a GUI.   What IS a GUI?
A3) A Graphical User Interface.   (If you’re reading this, you’ve got one in front of you … )
Q4) 9th December, 1965, saw the first broadcast of a TV Christmas Special: featuring characters from which comic strip?
A4) Peanuts.
Q5) Finally … 9th December, 1987, saw play halted, between England and Pakistan: after a row exploded between umpire, Shakoor Rana, and the England cricket captain.   Who was that captain?
I’ll leave you with this song …

And this thought …
“Glamour is just sex that got civilised.”

Dorothy Lamour, December 10, 1914 – September 22, 1996.
Enjoy your day …
