The Daily Teaser — 6-1-2015

Hmmm …

Well, that helps …

I told you, yesterday, I’d had my hours cut: and don’t see them going up, this week.

Sales being what they are.

I don’t — this week — see them going back up: although hopefully this will improve.

I also think I might just have to sign up for Working Tax Credits: which is something I’m always iffy about.

Either way … ?

Either way, I know I managed to get into work, yesterday: just to let my boss know how I felt about it.

I’ll give her credit: there wasn’t much she could do or say, beyond reassuring me everyone was getting a slice.

Still: she was able to both reassuring … and very understanding about a whinging staff member.

That’s a good thing, I think.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 6th January, 1977, saw EMI fire the Sex Pistols.   After the band behaved badly, where: the London Hilton, Heathrow Airport or a TV studio?
Q2) 6th January, 1907, saw Maria Montessori open her first school: in which Italian city?
Q3) 6th January, 1781, saw the last (attempted) French invasion of British territory.   During the Battle of which Channel Island: Jersey, Guernsey or Alderney?
Q4) 6th January, 2000, saw the death of Celia: under a falling tree.   With Celia’s death, her species became extinct.   Celia was, in effect, the last Pyrenean what: Ibex, Ibid or Ibis?
Q5) Finally … 6th January, 1492, saw the end of the Spanish Reconquista: when Ferdinand and Isabella of Aragon and Castile entered which city?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 5th January, 1976, saw the announcement of the constitution of Democratic Kampuchea.   What had the country been called, until then?
A1) Cambodia.
Q2) The country was ruled by the Communist Party of Kampuchea.   The party was also known as the Khmer … what?
A2) Khmer Rouge.
Q3) Who was the party’s notorious leader?
A3) Pol Pot.
Q4) According to R. J. Rummel, how many of the population were killed in the period the Khmer ruled: 1.7 million, 2.2 million or 2.9 million?
A4) 2.2 million.   (Most of the sources I’ve seen tell me that roughly 25% of Cambodia’s population were killed by the Khmer Rouge regime.   A quarter of the population.   Ye … gods … )
Q5) Lead by Comrade Duch, the Santebal were the Khmer what: security police, army or diplomatic corp?
Q6) The Khmer had captured the country’s capital city in 1975.   What was that city’s name?
Q7) After that city’s capture, the Khmer dubbed 1975, Year … what?
A7) Year Zero.
Q8) The Khmer persecuted religious members of its population.   85% of them followed a form of what: Buddhism, Christianity or Taoism?
A8) Buddhism.   (The county’s Muslim and Christian minorities were also persecuted.)
Q9) The Khmer regime fell: after the country was invaded by whom: China, Thailand or Vietnam?
A9) Vietnam.
Q10) Finally … what was the name of the 1984 film about this period of history: Cry Freedom, Apocalypse, Now or The Killing Fields?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but what he aspires to.”

Kahlil Gibran, January 6, 1883 – April 10, 1931.
And this song …

Enjoy your day.
