The Daily Teaser — 7-6-2015: Cricket, Lovely Cricket … !

Well, it’s Sunday: officially Sunday, I should say.

And … ?

Right at the moment, I’m up and about: and (mentally) preparing my self for work.

After finishing at 12:30, last night.

And … ?   Well, it has to be said, I’m feeling relatively non-tired.

How long that will last?

I really couldn’t tell you … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring four and a half out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s cricketing questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 7th June saw the start of the first Cricket World Cup.   In which year of the 1970s?
Q2) In which country of the UK was it held?
Q3) Name any of the eight teams that took part in first event.
Q4) How many of those teams had what’s called Test status?
Q5) A test match last for up to how many days?
Q6) Cricket’s World Cup is what’s called a ‘One Day International’: played over one day.   How many overs are played: forty, fifty or sixty?
Q7) How many balls are bowled in an over?
Q8) The batting side attempts to score more points than the fielding team.   What, in Cricket, are those points called?
Q9) The batsman has to defend — and is out of play if he fails to defend — the wooden stumps he’s standing in front of.   Those stumps are collectively called what?
Q10) Finally … who won the first World Cup final?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 6th June, 1947, saw the birth of actor, Robert Englund.   In which film franchise did he play Freddy Kruger?
A1) The Nightmare On Elm Street series.
Q2) Englund’s one of only two actors to play a horror film character in eight consecutive films.   Who’s the other actor?
A2) Doug Bradley.   (Better known as Pinhead, in the Hellraiser films.)
Q3) 6th June is the National Day of Sweden.   Name either of the colours on Sweden’s flag.
A3) Blue or yellow.
Q4) 6th June, 1985, saw the exhumation of Wolfgang Gerhard: from his grave in Brazil.   As a result, Gerhard was shown to be which notorious Nazi?
Q5) 6th June, 2002, saw an explosion in the upper atmosphere: over the Mediterranean Sea, between Greece and Libya.   What was assumed to be the cause: a nuclear bomb, an exploding plane or an exploding asteroid?
Q6) Finally … 6th June saw Britain stay a member of the EEC: the (then) version of what’s now the European Union.   In which year?
A6) 1975.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“In spite of recent jazzed-up one-day matches, cricket to be fully appreciated demands leisure, some sunny warm days and an understanding of its finer points.”

J. B. Priestly.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*     Probably because it’s unsurprising, Debbi.   The Terms and Conditions don’t necessarily make this practise clear: and — what twitted me off — was the fact there Amazon didn’t the courtesy to send out a reminder email: I certainly would’ve appreciated that … !   I don’t know that I’ll stop using their services.   But, to be frank, Debbi?   It’s left me distinctly unimpressed.
