The Man in the High Castle — Series 1 — Episodes 5 and 6: The New Normal and Three Monkeys.

3rd August, 2017

You know, this SEEMS to be the week for damage, doesn’t it?

Doesn’t it?

I mean … the light in the kitchen, last week, the glasses, the other night …

And now … ?

The light in my hallway.

And guess what … ?

I’ve tried changing the bulb.   A bog standard bayonet bulb.   On a flex with a bog standard — apparently — bayonet fitting.

Which refuses to take the bulbs with the bayonet fittings I actually HAVE!

Yes, yes, yes: I’ve managed to do some online reporting, before you ask: and reported this to my landlord.

HOPEFULLY?

They’ll be able to get out, in suitably brisk form, and replace the fitting.

Standing on a ladder, trying desperately to replace a bulb, in the dark?

Wasn’t something I was expecting to do in the middle of watching my new favourite series, The Man in the High Castle.

Funny how evenings go …

Episode 5 — The New Normal — shows us the Crown Prince rushed to a Pacific States hospital: in mortal danger, after the shooting.

Frank?   Makes his escape: convinced he’s been identified as the shooter, whilst Inspector Kido vows to commit seppuku if he doesn’t find the assassin.

Juliana, meanwhile?   Is questioned at Kempeitai HQ for the States, whilst Joe?   Is debriefed by his boss, Obergruppenführer Smith … and then invited over for dinner.

Episode 6 — Three Monkeys — After being interrogated?   Juliana accepts a job working for Tagomi as she continues her search for answers.   Unknown to him Wegener’s mission to the Pacific States has been leaked: his apparently innocent meeting with Obergruppenführer is not all that it seems.

Meanwhile?   Meanwhile, Trade Minister Tagomi, who Wegener has been dealing with, has gotten to know Juliana a little better … and seems to be concerned about her welfare … and approves of her Aikido classes …

Now …

Good … ?

Oh, yes.

Although, again, these were a couple of the slower paced episodes: something I mentioned when I wrote about the last episodes I watched.

Thus far, though?   The writing’s still strong, the cast great …

And Inspector Kido and Obergruppenführer Smith —  Joel de la Fuente and Rufus Sewell, respectively — are two of the nastier villains going.

So far?

I’m still, quite definitely, involved … !

Juliana: Alexa Davalos
