Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-4-2018

19th April, 2018.

I’m very aware that regular reader, Olga, has already read this post.

And that her fellow regular, Debbi — along with her partner, Rick — will have seen the junction near me: and be aware of how narrow the road is.

It always bears mentioning, though.
For as long as I’ve lived on Rollason Way, I’ve been concerned about emergency vehicle access to my street.

I’m convinced the mix of the narrowness of the streets, and the amount of cars parked on it will delay fire engines, in particular.

And contribute to someone’s death.

Yesterday?

Someone made that worse …

We have a building going up in Saint James Road.   Extra flats that will add more cars to the on street parking: along with the greater congestion.

Well …

The workmen building that building?

Have narrowed the road, temporarily, in order to carry on the site.

Personally … ?

I couldn’t walk on that bit of pavement, before the cones went up: because of the number of parked cars.

I — temporarily — can’t walk on that pavement, because of the building site’s blocking of it.

I think a Vogon constructor fleet would be welcome: so long as it just demolished that site.

Because, frankly?

This will decrease emergency vehicle access.

That is good …

Let’s get a move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The first space station was launched: on 19th April.   What was it called?
Q2) In which year?
Q3) By whom: the USSR, USA or the People’s Republic of China?
Q4) How many successful launches were made in this space station programme: 6, 8 or 10?
Q5) Finally … ?   The only manned mission to this station was on what: Soyuz 10, 11 or 12?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 18th April, 1960, marked the end of the Aldermaston Ban the Bomb March.   The march finished when it reached which London Square?
Q2) 18th April, 1930, saw the BBC’s news service announce there was no what, that day?
A2) News.
Q3) The St Andrew’s Ambulance Association was chartered by Queen Victoria: on 18th April, 1899.   It provided — and still provides — ambulances to which country of the UK?
A3) Scotland.
Q4) Joan of Arc was beatified on 18th April, 1909.   She patron saint of France … and whom: soldiers, sailors or rich men?
A4) Soldiers.
Q5) Finally … The Republic of Zimbabwe was officially created: on 18th April, 1980.   What was the country called, until then?
A5) Rhodesia.
Here’s an observation …
“Despite an array of problems, the first space station made important progress toward living and working in space long-term and paved the way for future space stations”.
From Space.com’s piece on the station.
And a clue …

And a song recorded on a space station^ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Thelma is  definitely one that didn’t grab me, Olga^.   Frankly, Avatar is better paced!   As for the road … ?   Well … I don’t think anyone would be complaining if flats had been built there when the rest of the estate was done, a decade back.   But … … …

†        Yeah: that was a good one, Debbi^!   So was Casablanca.   I think I might just have to pencil in more of the classics: although I’m ALSO thinking I’ve a pile of box sets to catch up with …

^        How the hell did that guitar get there … ?   (I was going to say ‘How on Earth’, but … )

Q1) Salyut 1
Q2) 1971
Q3) USSR
Q4) Six
Q5) Soyuz 11 (Soyuz 10 was also manned but due to problems docking they never made it into the station, it seems).
There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to planning road or refurbishment works at all. They pull a whole street up to change something and a few weeks letter it's up again to replace something else. There should be somebody to coordinate all this, but...
Have a good day.
