Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-8-2019: Cash

29th August, 2019.

Yes: we have a prorogued Parliament*.

Boris Johnson has taken the step of proroguing — suspending, in other words — Parliament yesterday.

Something that’s usually done during an election, or over Parliament’s Summer Recess.

And that the Johnson administration say is to prepare for a Queen’s Speech on 14th October, this year.

But many — myself included — feel is an attempt to block attempts to stop a no-deal Brexit.

And the day after opposition leaders had agreed a way of doing just that.

It’s also something that’s — apparently — entirely legal.

Personally?

I want my country back.

But am very aware Boris has tied us face down over a barrel, and taken his trousers off.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi† putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

The day also saw Anne‡ looking in: to let us know what’s happening.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Coins were minted — for the first time — in Japan, on 29th August, 708.   They were made from which metal?
Q2) The coins — called Wadōkaichin — had a hole in the middle.   What shape was that hole?
Q3) The model for this coin was the Kāiyuán tōngbǎo.   The Kāiyuán tōngbǎo was from which Asian nation?
Q4) Coins with this hole were supposed to be carried on a length of what?
Q5) What’s the modern day currency of Japan?
Q6) What’s the modern currency’s predecessor?
Q7) What’s the smallest, current, denomination of Japanese coin?
Q8) What’s the largest?
Q9) Is Japanese currency a reserve currency?
Q10) Finally … ?   What’s the symbol for Japan’s modern currency?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 28th August saw the birth of novelist, Sheridan Le Fanu.   In which year?
A1) 1814.
Q2) In which Irish city?
A2) Dublin.
Q3) Which ‘C’ was Le Fanu’s best known vampire novel?
A3) Carmilla.
Q4) The Ruthyn family feature in which of Le Fanu’s novels?
Q5) Finally … ?   Green Tea, Mr Justice Harbottle and The Familiar all appear in Le Fanu’s best known short story collection.   What short story collection?
Here’s a thought …
“By right means, if you can, but by any means make money.”
The Epistles, Horace.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        If — like me — you’re someone who deeply opposes Boris Johnson’s move?   There’s a petition that those of us in the UK can sign.   When I signed, yesterday, seem 350 thousand people had signed it.   It’s now just shy of 1.2 million …

†        Yeah, THOUGHT you might, Debbi!   😀.  Oh, by the way, have you seen the intro video?   There’s that editing, again … !

‡        That’s cool, Anne.   And it sound’s like you have a twit for a landlord.   If the leak’s not your fault, he’s obliged to fix the loo.   It’s his toilet, after all!   (I feel annoyed for you!   🤨)

I'm having time with Mom, going to her house, erm I'm sick, my mom (well ex mom-in-law) paid water bill. I've swopped broadband and telephone company to Talk Talk, so I've knocked one bill down by half. Virgin Media were a nightmare Id asked for the cheaper package as paying over £60 month for basic TV and broadband they bumped it up so I was fuming. Regards my landlord, well last year we had to threaten a solicitor when my floor caved in and he asks me to step over the bloody big hole, you couldn't write my life, my brother in law ended up doing the work saving Landlord £8,000. I hate change that trouble, motivate myself to look for a place when in a better financial position which next year I can begin to save again which feels a positive goal. Im back on Sunday tea time. Paul can you send me links to other film reviews more so horror that youve done. Hope your new job is going ok have a great weekend

I hope to catch up and participate over the weekend or next week (they are doing live programmes at the radio all this week and I'm not sure if I'll have to go on the weekend or not as well), but I heard and it's worrying. I just saw Hugh Grant trending and read his comments. Who would have thought? (He got Boris so right!)
