Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd May, 2021.

2nd May, 2021.

Right …

You’ll remember that it’s Local Election time in the UK: with the elections themselves being held, this Thursday.

And that I’m not especially happy to get tons of election leaflets: especially considering I’ve got a great big ‘Vote Green’ poster.

With effects to ask candidates — Councillor Karen Chilvers in particular — not yo put leaflets through my door, being dismissed.

Rather disdainfully, I felt: frankly, that gives me another reason not to vote for her.   (I won’t voting the Tory candidate, Will Russell: he, at least, was politer about the leaflet situation.   I’m not going to be voting for the Reform Party, either: the impression I’ve formed is that they’re far more right wing than they claim*.   And that voting for anything that Nigel Farage founded is something sensible people should avoid like the plague.)

At ANY rate … ?

I actually managed to bump into the Lib-Dem activist who was delivering to the remaining properties in the area, yesterday.

And asked her to pass on the message: NOT to deliver to my address.

I can only hope that gets passed on: and sticks.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡, Trevor^, Debbiª and Edithº putting in their answers: with Olga, Trevor and Debbi, scoring five out of five, Mum on four, and Edith on three.

Let’s see how they, and you, does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        2nd May, 1972, saw the birth of actor and wrestler, Dwayne Johnson.   What was his wrestling stage name: the Rock, the Stone or the Pebble?

Q2)        The King James Version of the Bible was first published: on 2nd May, 1611.   In which English city?

Q3)        The FBI’s Most Wanted man was shot: on 2nd May, 2011.   Which al-Qaeda leader was he?

Q4)        Lily Allen was born on 2nd May, 1985.   What was the name of her first UK №1: Smile, LDN or Littlest Things?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The maiden voyage of the QE2 started on 2nd May, 1967.   She was heading for which US city: New York, New Orleans or Chicago?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        1st May is May Day. It’s also what in the USA: Law Day, Cheese Day or Banana Day?
A1)        Law Day.   (Banana Day’s in April.   Cheese Day’s in June.   Hallmark’s possibly on overtime …)

Q2)        May Day, 1851, saw Queen Victoria open the Great Exhibition.   Where: Buckingham Palace, Alexandra Palace or the Crystal Palace?
A2)        The Crystal Palace.   (It was called that, as it had the greatest amount of plate glass of any given building at the time.)

Q3)        May Day will see many in England dancing around a Maypole.   This usually involves the pole getting wrapped in what: ribbons, denim or hessian?
A3)        Ribbons.

Q4)        May Day, 1967, saw Priscilla Beaulieu get married to whom?
A4)        Elvis Presley.

Q5)        Finally … ?   May Day, 2002, saw the release of OpenOffice 1.0.   It’s what sort of software: open source or closed source?
A5)        Open source.
Here’s a thought …
“I think things that work well start to look good as well.”
James Dyson, born 2nd May, 1947.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        The Reform Party is a re-branded version of Nigel Farage’s Brexit party.   The impression I’ve formed?   Is that they’re only slightly less racist than the English Defence League.

†        Blimey!   That taxi driver must have been charging double time, Olga!   And put the tin lid on it.   If you’ll excuse the bad pun!
As for the election?   The sooner we get councillors in, that can approve a new phone mast, the happier I’ll be.   (One of the local Liberal Democrats?   Is a member of the planning committee that’s made a dog’s dinner of it!)

‡        Hello, Mum!

^        I think it’s allowed in Dubai, Trevor: as long as you’re drinking alcohol-free beer.   Which is possibly a good way of ruining Oktoberfest … !   On a more serious note: a friend lived in Bahrain, for a few years.   If memory serves, he said you could drink, there, if you weren’t Bahraini, were resident in specific hotels, and didn’t violate Bahraini laws on public drinking/drunkenness.

ª        If I’ve understood things correctly, Debbi?   The producers felt the story was ‘high concept’ … but that Death wouldn’t appeal to the audience in Hicksville, Alabama.   Or was it Power Cable, Nebraska?   Somewhere like that!
At any rate?   Remember the issues we’re having with the mobile phone mast?   Karen’s a member of the planning committee that’s made a dog’s dinner of things.   Granted, she did well with The library … but the mast’s had more of an impact.
Oh, THAT’S a thought, Debbi: let me know when you’ve downloaded that lot, I can arrange for the next batch!

º        I’m learning that Edith: Olga showed us a video of one song where Kelly end’s up tap-dancing … in roller skates!   How he didn’t go end over elbow, I don’t know.   They don’t make movie stars like that, anymore, do they?

Yes, I hope the incoming people can get their act together and sort the mast problem.
I am a fan of both, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, but must say that although I'm graceless myself (and think Fred is much more graceful), I've always loved Kelly's acrobatics and imagination. He was a great choreographer and co-directed quite a few excellent movies as well, and brought much innovation to the screen musical. And he had a charming smile and seems he was a rather nice guy as well. His movies always make me smile, and what more can you ask...

A1 The Rock
A2 London, England not the one in Canada
A3 Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden
A4 Smile
A5 New York City

Bumped into an old member of the drinking circles in The Hutton as I approached the paper shop this morning. Dom was just finishing his daily run. I had seen some of his early morning pictures taken in the fields just south of me on Facebook. We had a bit of a chat.

Very difficult to concentrate this morning. The area behind my eyes has become dull and empty. Also just about every muscle in my body aches. Must be side effects of yesterday’s jab.

My second sister Gill let me know on Facebook that she had her 2nd jab yesterday.
