Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd May, 2021

3rd May, 2021.

It’s officially official: today is — in the UK — a public holiday.

Which means … ?   Well, not a lot, from where I am.

It’s another day, and another — ha! — dollar.

Saying that … ?

At least the snooker World Championship’s on.

Mark Selby’s leading Sean Murphy 10-7, at the moment.

In other words?

It’s not over yet.

~≈ß≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡, Debbi^ and Edithª putting in their answers: with Olga, Trevor, Mum and Edith scoring five out of five, and Debbi on four.

Let’s see how they, and you, does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Japan’s Constitution went into effect: on 3rd May.   Of which year of the 1940s?

Q2)        3rd May, 1844, saw the birth of composer, Richard D’Oyly Carte.   He owned and operated which theatre: the Savoy, Dominion or the Drill Hall?

Q3)        3rd May is the Feast Day of Saint Theodosius of Kiev.   Kiev is where: Russia, the Ukraine or Estonia?

Q4)        3rd May, 1952, saw the first US landing, where: the North Pole or South Pole?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Some Christian churches will be celebrating what, on the 3rd May: Roodmas, Candlemas or Treemas?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        2nd May, 1972, saw the birth of actor and wrestler, Dwayne Johnson.   What was his wrestling stage name: the Rock, the Stone or the Pebble?
A1)        The Rock. (As I recall, he appeared in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager.   As an alien wrestler. Typecasting obviously helps … )

Q2)        The King James Version of the Bible was first published: on 2nd May, 1611.   In which English city?
A2)        London.

Q3)        The FBI’s Most Wanted man was shot: on 2nd May, 2011.   Which al-Qaeda leader was he?
A3)        Osama bin Laden. (I almost called him Osama bin Lada, there … )

Q4)        Lily Allen was born on 2nd May, 1985.   What was the name of her first UK №1: Smile, LDN or Littlest Things?
A4)        Smile.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The maiden voyage of the QE2 started on 2nd May, 1969.   She was heading for which US city: New York, New Orleans or Chicago?
A5)        New York.
Here’s a thought …
“They trusted rather their own character and prudence — knowing perfectly well that time contains the seeds of all things, good as well as bad.”
Niccolò Machiavelli, 3 May 1469 – 21 June 1527.
And a bit of politics …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

My name is Ben Elton … goodnight!

*        Cheers, Olga, I managed to correct the date, there: it’s my own silly fault, that one!   And that’s ALWAYS the thing: if an actor’s not entertaining, all the Oscar’s on the planet aren’t worth much!   (Gene Kelly sounds even more multitalented than Danny Kaye: apparently, Kaye’s the only non-chef to win the relevant Meilleur Ouvrier de France.)

†        If you bump into Dom, again, Trevor, tell him I said Hi!   (I seem to recall he had a sensible computer.)
Hang on, you have a numbness behind the eyes?   I’ll stay tactfully silent!   At any rate, my second one should be in June: I’m still waiting for the txt …

‡        Hello, Mum!

^        It’s a pleasure, Debbi!   Oh, I’ve got the rest of them, as well.   I’ve emailed you …

ª        Wow!   That’s what I call skill, Edithº!   I hope there was a mattress under that hedgerow, at the end!   I think the best we could manage was this …

º        Oh, well done for yesterday’s score, Edith: five out of five!

A2 The Savoy
A3 The Ukraine
A4 North Pole
A5 Roodmas

Most of my body and brain back to normal especially after 7 ½ hours unbroken sleep last night.

I see we have a weather warning of strong winds from 15.00 today. And again breakfast time Tuesday.

I can expect a load of plastic dustbins and recycling bins in my front garden. Especially from the neighbour in front of me who was taken into Hospital 2 Wednesdays ago.

If I remember right Dom works for the company that makes his computer.

Q1) 1947

Q2) The Savoy (I’ve been to quite a few of the London theatres, but I’m not sure about the Savoy...)

Q3) Ukraine

Q4) North Pole

Q5) Roodmas
The skating video reminded me of Charles Chaplin in Modern Times, when he becomes the guard at a department store, and decides to use the skates...
Yes, I remember that clue about Danny Kaye. Sometimes it's difficult to understand why some people got to be big stars, but in some cases, it's evident they had everything needed and more.
Here it isn't a holiday today, although I'd got a message from Anna telling me she woke up with symptoms of a cold, and she'll later tell if we have a class or not... I hope at least it's not the usual suspect.

Thank you, Paul. Your quizzes are a fun way to fill in my knowledge gaps.

That routine in the clip you showed us took a great deal of talent to do. He made it look easy.
