Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th March 2023.

12th March, 2023.

Yes!

I’ve officially finished my video review of ‘No Win Scenario,’ the most recent episode of Star Trek Picard.

It’s got to be said: it’s proving to be quite an entertaining series!

~≈🖖≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Olga scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        According to Amnesty International and Reporters Without Border, 12th March is the World Day Against Cyber … what: Censorship, Security or Silliness?

Q2)        President Truman proposed his Truman Doctrine: on 12th March, 1947.   It gave aid to countries fighting which ‘C’: censorship, communism or crime?

Q3)        12th March, 1993, saw two hundred and fifty seven people killed: in bomb attacks on what’s now called Mumbai.   The city was then called what?

Q4)        In order to prevent the spread of COVID, 12th March, 2020, saw the USA government suspend travel.   From where: Europe, Africa or East Asia?

Q5)        Finally … ?   12th March, 1938, saw German troops occupy where: Austria, Bulgaria or Czechoslovakia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        11th March is the 70th day of the year.   What day is it, in a leap year?
A1)        The 71st.

Q2)        11th March is Moshoeshoe Day.   Where: Kenya, Lesotho or Malawi?
A2)        Lesotho.

Q3)        Queen Anne, the last British Monarch to refuse to sign a bill into law, did so on 11th March, 1708.   In the UK, Royal approval for a bill is called the Royal what: Assent, Consent or Descent?
A3)        Assent.   (I believe there’s a similar process in Spain: but am not sure.   Nor could I tell you how any similar processes work in the US.)

Q4)        Douglas Adams was born: on 11th March, 1952.   He wrote Shada and The Pirate Planet for which science fiction series: The Flipside of Dominick Hyde, Time Tunnel or Doctor Who?
A4)        Doctor Who.   (He also co-wrote City of Death.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Arnošt of Pardubice (par-du-BIT-chi … I think!) was named as the last bishop of Prague: on 11th March, 1343.   1344 saw saw him becoming the first Archbishop of where?
A5)        Funnily?   Prague.
Here’s a thought …
“They used to have clauses and contracts where you can’t get bad publicity or you’d get fired.   But now bad publicity is good publicity.   I just keep working and don’t think about it much.”
Liza Minelli, born March 12, 1946.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeah … The show does crop up a lot, Olga!   😂   To be fair, Adams was the show’s script editor — the second highest member of the production team — for some time.   And — as I’m sure Debbi will remind us — his Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency was a recycled version of Shada.
Now you mention it … ?   Mario’s surname is Mario: he’s Mario Mario.   His brother is Luigi Mario.   Um … …
On a more serious note: I think that’s why the work man asked me to keep an eye on it, and keep a diary.   That way, he — and the office — can justify the cost.   I’ve got that diary started: so it’s a waiting game.

Hello, Mum!   (It’s the 71st day, Mum: rather than Sunday.)

I’ve got to admit, I’m not a huge sports fan, Debbi: but it does make a change from some of the street names in town.   We’ve got King’s Road, Queens Road, Windsor Road, Alexandra Road, Alfred Road, King Edward Road, Regents Way: they’s all got regal connections.   But Rollason Way’s named after Hellen as she lived in Brentwood.   And the buildings are named after sports people.   Mine’s named after Damon Hill, the block next door is named after Lennox Lewis, and one around the corner called Helen House.   It’s opposite Botham House.
There’s no roads named after Douglas, though: which is a shame.

You're right about the Assent thing in Spain, although, to tell you the truth, I don't know exactly what the king (or queen, if the daughter of the current one gets to be queen. I hope the monarchy ends before that but...) has to do. I imagine he will sign somewhere. It's like his father signed the official paperwork (the diploma) of my medical degree. Considering what we now know about him, I think that makes it less valuable than before. I don't think that is the case in the UK, though, because my degree from Sussex, both, the BA and the Doctorate, (and my Masters from Leicester) are only signed by the university's registrar and not by the queen. And, as you can imagine, that means there is a bit of a delay on getting the piece of paper (you do get a certificate that you can use once you've completed the degree, but the actual official and signed document you only get months later, I think it was well over a year in my case).
Fingers crossed on the heating front. I got an e-mail form the lady who used to be the receptionist at the last hospital where I worked in the UK, and although retired she still lives in Sheffield and she told they still had snow.

The private estate that I live on does not use endings like Road, Street, Lane, Way or Avenue. All the streets just have a single name. The only way into the Estate is called Brocksparkwood. To get to my road you turn right into Bonningtons and then right into my street Riffhams. Some of the names may seem odd. There is Rowhedge and Covenbrook.

Just when I have a reason to visit the High Street I see that it will be closed for about 10 days. I will have to wait a few days before I get a new mug shot for the renewal of my passport which expires on the 13th March. Good job I am not planning on any overseas trips in the near future.

Somebody should do that. We could petition the local government. Yours!

I'd sign it! :) Like an international political/cultural statement.

Think Douglas would approve? lol
