Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th June, 2024.

13th June, 2024.

Right … it’s Thursday!

Which, frankly, means I’m going to have to pick up medication, at some point!

Assuming the pharmacist has them.

Here’s hoping!

~≈Ω≈~

I’m going to surprise people: and tell you I’ve made up my mind about who to vote for in next month’s General Election.

The Greens.

They’ve finally released their manifesto, this year.

And … ?

Are promising to increase Universal Credit by some forty pounds a week.

Granted, given the way elections in the UK go, it’s unaffordable, unrealistic and never going to happen.

But?

They’ve put money, albeit theoretical money, on the table: that tells me what they want to do for people in my shoes.

That’s not something I’ve seen in the Conservative or Liberal Democrat manifestos.

Nor expect to see in Labour’s, when they publish theirs.

It’s …

Well … let’s just say politics can be unsurprising …

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th June, 1967, saw the Soviet Union condemn the actions of which country: Israel, Jordan or Italy?

Q2)        13th June, 1966 saw the US Supreme Court rule US police forces must inform arrested people of their Fifth Amendment Rights.   In other words, of their right to what: silence, a fair trial or prison food?

Q3)        13th June saw the Yukon Territories become part of Canada.   13th June of which year of the 1890s?

Q4)        13th June, 2018, saw a car company fined over and emission scandal.   Which car company: Ford, Chrysler or Volkswagen?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Gnaeus Julius Agricola was born on 13th June, AD40.   For many years, he was governor of where: Cisalpine Gaul, Britain or Dacia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Helsinki was founded on 12th June.   Of which year: 1549, 1550 or 1551?
A1)        1550.

Q2)        It was founded by Gustav 1st of where: Sweden, Denmark or Norway?
A2)        Sweden.

Q3)        Helsinki is the capital of where: Sweden, Denmark, Norway or Finland?
A3)        Finland.

Q4)        The city has two official languages. Name one.
A4)        Finnish or Swedish.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Helsinki hosted the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest: after the country won in 2006.    Which Finnish band won, in 2006: Hanoi Rocks, Lordi or Nightwish?
A5)        Lordi.
Here’s a thought …
“… we can scarcely avoid the conclusion that light consists in the transverse undulations of the same medium which is the cause of electric and magnetic phenomena.”
James Clerk Maxwell, 13 June 1831 – 5 November 1879.
And music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeah, I’ve seen the shovelling thing, too, Olga.   I’m grateful it’s there: I’d hate to eat rice with chopsticks, one grain at a time!   🤣   I’m also thankful the teriyaki was in strips: that made things nice and easy.   (I got a souvenir pair of chopsticks, at the end of the meal: you never know when you need them.)
The appointment went well: the hygienist was gentle enough that I didn’t need numbing!

        Hello, Mum!

‡        It’s funny you should mention curry, Debbi!   The place does a version of Katsu sauce, the curry sauce you get in a lot of Asian restaurants: it’s rather nice.
I’ve not done sausage and mash, in a while.   The mash takes a while to do: compared to cooking potato in an air fryer!

Q1) Israel (some things don’t seem to change. Or perhaps, nothing changes. As you were saying, politics, and international relations, can be surprisingly unsurprising).

Q2) silence

Q3) 1898

Q4) Volkswagen

Q5) Britain
Well, it sounds as if a decision has been made. I'm covering the launch of a record by a very well-known group from the neighbourhood, La Companyia Elèctrica Dharma, who celebrated 50 years playing last year. They've done a lot of things around here, including being the ones officially opening the festival last year (la festa major), and giving a concert. They've played everywhere (in Africa, in Brazil, in the States).... Here I leave you some youtube videos. They are all (mostly) members of the same family, although a couple have died over the years, but now one of the sisters, and some friends of the family play as well. Incredicly enough, considering the age of the older ones (the one with the dark long hair, Joan, has been on the group since the very beginning), they remain almost as energetic as they were there.
