Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th June 2024.

8th June, 2024.

Right … Saturday …

It’s a Saturday: which means I’ve missed the big political debate, last night.

In favour of episode two of the latest Star Wars series, The Acolyte.

Lightsabers, Jedi and Wookies, had more appeal.

On the election front?

Rishi Sunak’s still facing flack about not staying for the whole of the D-Day commemorations.

A commemoration that — as it turned out — President Volodymyr Zelensky of the Ukraine, attended.

President Zelensky: president of a country currently being invaded by Russia.

President Zelenshy, a man who’s nation is being invaded, and who you would forgive for not being there … attended a ceremony during his country’s worst patch in recent history.

President Zelensky of the Ukraine is looking a lot better, politically, than the British PM.

And if it wasn’t for the fact he’s busy, I’d suggest the President stand for Parliament!

Actually, on the election front?

It seems the Greens are facing issues: as they’re having to drop candidates who are making anti-semitic social media posts.

I hope they sort that out by the time the manifesto’s published.

I’d like to vote — or not vote — for them: on the basis of that, rather than anti-semitic posts*.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        8th June is the feast day of Saint William of where: York, Lincoln or Lancaster?

Q2)        8th June is Bounty Day. Where: Vanuatu, Norfolk Island or Pitcairn Island?

Q3)        Kanye West was born on 8th June, 1977.   In 2018, he announced he’d be changing his stage name to what?

Q4)        8th June, 1376, saw the death of Edward of Woodstock.   He’s best remembered as what: the Black Prince, White Prince or Blue Prince?

Q5)        Finally … ?   8th June, 1942, saw a Japanese submarine bomb Newcastle.   Newcastle, where: Australia, the UK or New Zealand?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        7th June is World Food Safety Day.   According to whom: the United Nations, the European Union or African Union?
A1)        The United Nations.

Q2)        The Food Standards Agency is responsible for food safety in all of the UK.   Except where: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales?
A2)        Scotland.   The Scottish equivalent is Food Standards Scotland.

Q3)        According to the Food Standards Agency, food cooked at home is cooked properly if what is rising from the surface: steam, blood or sparks?
A3)        Steam.   (If it’s dripping blood — or sparking — you might a problem.)

Q4)        Again, according to the Food Standards Agency?   Unless the manufacturers instructions say otherwise, food has to be thoroughly what before cooking: defrosted, delightful or delicious?
A4)        Defrosted.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Heating liquid foods kills bacteria.   The process is called what: pasteurisation, purification or parturition?
A5)        Pasteurisation.
Here’s a thought …
“If Web 2.0 for you is blogs and wikis, then that is people to people.   But that was what the Web was supposed to be all along.”
Tim Berners-Lee, born 8 June 1955.
A song …

And an earworm¶ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Nik Nak’s First Rule of Politics?   Don’t get caught.

        Hello, Mum!

“The emperor it deserves”?   Remind me to remember that one, Olga: it’s going to come in handy!
And you’re right about Russia’s forces, I think.   From what I’ve understood, the Battle of Stalingrad was just as much a turning point as D-Day.
I think Mr Putin didn’t want to meet President Zelensky … or was too busy fighting imaginary Nazis in Ukraine …

§        I’ll have to add Doctor Zhivago to my “To Be Watched” list, Debbi!   If I recall some of the rumours I’ve heard, though?   Most of Sharif’s fee for the film, went on the backgammon tables in Monte Carlo!
Yeah, I can imagine.   What gets me?   Is the amount of US citizens who describe the UK as a socialist country.   How many socialist countries have a monarchy?   (Bar North Korea?)
Oh, you’ve got a delivery, Debbi!

Why “Shake It Off” is giving me images of a well known Psy song?   I don’t know!

Q3) Ye

Q4) the Black Prince

Q5) Australia (It would have been the hell of a trip to get to the UK, to be honest).
Not sure if you ever were into Supernatural, but I always enjoyed this one.

(The whole crew seemed to have a great sense of humour). If you've never watched it, there is a hilarious episode Groundhog Day style, where one of the brothers keeps getting killed and the other one keeps trying to save him, and the way he gets killed get better and better.
I hope the Greens sort out the issues. It is a bit difficult because it seems anything said against the way Israel is doing things gets labelled as "antisemitic" even if that is not the intention (well, Spain isn't in their good books, that's for sure), but I don't know if that is what might be at play here.

I don't get it, either. Much as I hate bureaucracy, government is supposed to serve the people. Create systems that work. Is that too much to ask? :)

Politics. Ugh.
