Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th October, 2024.

24th October, 2024.

Did I mention I’ve been binge watching a US comedy?

I’ve been binge watching a US comedy: The Big Bang Theory, currently aired — in the UK — by Channel Four.

It’s hysterical: both the cast and crew have played a blinder.

Especially Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper.

Last night?

I caught the two-part finale, last night.

And have to say, it was a hell of a thing to watch: especially Sheldon’s final speech.

It’s one hell of a tear-jerker!

And a suitable last speech!

At any rate … ?

I’ve got a new sofa: sitting next to me as I write.

It needs assembling: I suspect that’s something I need help with.

I also know it’s something I need space to do.

That’s solvable: I have a clearance company, coming today: in order to clear out my old armchairs.

Hopefully?

They’ll be here, and gone, and the sofa assembled, by the time my nephew gets here!

Heigh-ho!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring six out of six, Olga on five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        24th October is the International Day of whom: Diplomats, Parliamentarians or Hikers?

Q2)        24th October marks the start of the UN-sponsored Global Media and Information what week: Literacy Week, Diversity Week or Overload Week?

Q3)        Chartres Cathedral was dedicated: on 24th October, 1260.   Where is that cathedral: France, Germany or Spain?

Q4)        Who’s last performance took place on 24th October, 1926: Harry Houdini’s, Sir Henry Irving’s or Ellen Terry’s?

Q5)        Finally … ?   24th October is Independence Day, where: Vietnam, Yemen or Zambia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        Hitler and Franco.

Q2)        Where is Hendaye: France, Spain or Italy?
A2)        France.

Q3)        The first battle of the English Civil War took place on 23rd October. Of which year: 1642, 1643 or 1644?
A3)        1642.

Q4)        The Auld Alliance’s first treaty was signed on 23rd October, 1295.   Between Scotland and where?

A5)        The Vietnam War.

Q6)        Finally … ?   The Hungarian Republic replaced the Hungarian People’s Republic on 23rd October.   Of which year of the 1980s?
A6)        1989.

Here’s a thought …

“Divorce, never! Murder, often!”
Dame Sybil Thorndike, (24 October 1882 – 9 June 1976), talking about her husband.

A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeah: that sounds familiar, Olga.   I’m assuming Grammarly is using some sort of large language model for its suggestions: and accepting the most common style suggestions as the ‘proper’ suggestions.   It’s an amazing bit of kit … for shooting ourselves in the foot …
Oh, the next six question set’s in November … !   :D

        Hello, Mum!

‡        I think Duck and Cover’s been replaced, Debbi.   By Active Shooter Drills.   I’d imagine that’s not reassuring!

I missed question number 6. I copy and paste them into a document before finding the answers, and I guess I was in a hurry. (I don't need to tell you about the risks of cut and paste).
I hope everything goes well with the sofa, although you could always get your nephew to help you... Perhaps. I remember trying to put furniture together by myself (I didn't have anybody to help me and some of it was evidently meant for two people), and yes, it can get.. interesting. I remember putting the legs on the dining room table, and then struggling to turn it around, because I was expecting the fridge and the washing machine to come, and I had to move it out of the way. Or putting the bed together, and having to try to hold the two ends of the lateral metal bars at the same time. (A strong plastic box came in handy to hold it in place). Oh, and trying to put together a guest bed, that was a bunk bed, but the bottom had wheels, and it would rise to the level of the other bed to make a double... That was definitely complicated (because, of course I put the pieces the wrong way round first). But it worked, eventually...
And yes, you're right about Grammarly. I remember trying to write an essay about gender, years back, and Word trying to correct me and telling me not to use "gendered" language. Frustrating is the mildest I can call it.
