Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th October 2024.

29th October, 2024.

Right …

I mentioned, yesterday, that there was talk the government were — apparently — planning to scrap the bus fare cap: the one that’s been in place since the Cost of Living crisis.

That’s annoying: the thing’s a life-saver if you’re on a low income.

However?

The Prime Minister announced, yesterday, that the cap would go from two pounds to three pounds.

That’s …

Well, it’s not something I wanted to hear.

But it’s better than a poke in the eye …

Oh …

I’m something of a Mac fan: you’re possibly aware of that.

You’re possibly also aware that’s Apple’s new range of iMacs have dropped: at least, they’re ready for pre-order.

I have to say, they look impressive.

They now start with sixteen gigabytes of RAM, by default: and come in four different stock options.

Still …

I have criticisms.

First?

The high end machine comes with a ‘normal’ M4 chip: and can’t, seemingly, be configured with anything more powerful.

Secondly?

My second criticism is the same one I’ve had for a while.

These modern machines only have four USB c/Thunderbolt 4 ports*.

Anyone buying these new machines will probably need a lot of dongles …

Just as a last thought … ?

I’ve officially found out I’ve lost 300 grams, at yesterday’s weight-in.

That’s not as much as I was hoping: but it’s better than I was expecting.

So that’s a result.

~≈⚖️≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Given General Franco was ill?   29th October, 1975, saw who named as Spain’s provisional head of State?

Q2)        29th October, 1982, saw Lindy Chamberlain found guilty of murdering her daughter: near what’s now known as Uluru.   Who or what did Chamberlain claim had killed her daughter: a wolf, a coyote or a dingo … ?

Q3)        What was Uluru then called?

Q4)        According to the UN, 29th October is International Day of Care and what?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Dutch city of Breda was liberated on 29th October, 1944.   By an armoured division from where: Poland, Estonia or Latvia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Beijing was named as capital on 28th October.   Of which year of the 1420s?
A1)        1420.

Here’s a thought …
“He who has provoked the lash of wit, cannot complain that he smarts from it.”
James Boswell, 29 October 1740 – 19 May 1795.
A David Paton song …

And an earworm§ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Oh, using the oven at the same time as the toaster isn’t the problem, Olga: it’s using the kettle with the toaster.   It blew again, this morning!   I’ve moved the ladder near the fuse box, as a result.
Those sound like a good idea, Olga: I’ll have to ask my GP about them.   That said, I think the NHS only hands them out to people with type one diabetes.   (I know Apple’s making a bit thing of their new Watch: apparently, they and Google want to corner the smart watch market.   That said, the USA FDA is warning people against them.)

        Hello, Mum!

I thought it would appeal, Debbi!   (I tend to listen to my Music collection, Debbi: YouTube throws all sorts of stuff at me!)

§        Apparently, In Extremo have at least two regular bagpipe players.   And at least one member of the band doubles up … on the hurdy-gurdy

Q1) Prince Juan Carlos (what a choice! It’s one scandal after another, but the whole of the Borbones are a caution…). It goes without saying that, democracy or no democracy after Franco’s death, the monarchy was never voted or elected.

Q2) A dingo (a fascinating case and it isn’t clear yet what happened).

Q3) Ayers Rock

Q4) Support

Q5) Poland
Yes, I've seen people with Type I diabetes using them, even young children, and they seem to work well. Mind you, it is worth asking. You never know.
