Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October 2024.

3rd October, 2024.

It’s official: it’s Thursday.

And I still have no payment from the Department of Work and Pensions.

This time last week, I was the plaintiff — defendant? — in a tribunal to determine if I was eligible for Personal Independence Payment.

A tribunal that went my way.

And — if I’ve understood the dates, correctly — will involve a large back payment,

Which would be appreciated: it would allow me to get some new furniture, furniture I feel would help ease my chronic joint pain.

But … ?

As of half an hour ago, there’s nothing in my account.

And … ?

According to the call centre agent I spoke to, yesterday, at the DWP?

That payment could take ‘a few weeks’.

And that I’d probably have to wait for another letter.

Do you ever get the feeling this is going to take a while … ?

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring six out of six, and Mum on five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Here’s a thought …
“Perhaps this is our strange and haunting paradox in America — that we are fixed and certain only when we are in movement.”
From Book 1, Chapter Five of You Can’t Go Home Again, by Thomas Wolfe, October 3, 1900 – September 15, 1938.
And a song§ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think, Olga, you’re going to hear me complaining about the money: until it turns up.   Lord knows how long that’s going to take, I don’t know!
I know what you mean about new specs, too.   They do take a while, don’t they … ?   (Screwless?   That I have to see!)

        Hello, Mum!

I hope they are, Debbi: that’s why I picked those frames.   I think I’m going to have to update my thumbnails …
The handy thing about Behold the Man, Debbi?   Is it’s a book-sized book: rather than a breeze block/cinder block!

§        I forgot to mention I have Phillip Glass’s Candyman Suite on in the background.   ‘Haunting’, and ‘mournful’ are possibly the words.

¶        Tony Todd, as the film’s titular character … ?   Was, and is, extremely powerful.

I know they are always very quick at charging you and getting your payment (institutions and government in general) but very slow when it comes to paying, although in some cases that has improved (usually when it involves very little money). I hope it doesn't take too long.
I'm still waiting to hear about my mother's dependency assessment, but as she has some tests next week and then we're going to see the doctor the week after, I think I'll wait until then if I haven't heard before. She might confirm the diagnosis of arthrosis, and perhaps that will be something else worth adding onto the assessment regarding mobility and needing help.
I'm reading a book for carers that I must tell you about in more detail when I'm further along, but although it is meant for carers, I'm sure a lot of what it says about dealing with the administration (Officialdom as he calls it) and getting help applies as well. The writer lives in the UK (but he doesn't give specific advice, because, as he says, things change all the time and are different for every condition, so it's impossible to cover everything) and his wife has Huntington's Disease.
