Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6th October 2024.

6th October, 2024.

Right … it’s Sunday.

And … ?

And very aware you know what an ‘earworm’ is.

It’s a song — or parts of a song — that’s playing its way around your head: sometimes for no apparent reason.

I get those.

I’m also wondering what the term is for a word that’s stuck in your head.

Because, every-so-often, I get the word, ‘yurt’, stuck in my head: and, for no apparent Reaser, compelling me to use or mention it, somehow.

Why?

I have no idea.

But … ?

I want to know what a word like that’s called!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on nine.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        6th October is the feast day of Saint Faith.   She’s the patron saint of who: prisoners, pie-makers or priests?

Q2)        6th October is the 280th day of 2024.   Is 280 a prime number?

Q3)        Germantown was founded on 6th October, 1683.   It’s now a suburb of which US city: Omaha, Philadelphia or Quincy?

Q4)        The Space Shuttle Discovery launched on a mission: on 6th October, 1990.   The probe it launched was due to study where: the sun, the moon or Earth?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Dimidium was discovered on 6th October, 1995.   It’s a what: asteroid, extra-solar planet or moon of Jupiter?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Monty Python’s Fly Circus first aired on 5th October.   In which year of the 1960s?
A1)        1969.

Q2)        Name any one of the surviving four members of the troupe that made it.

Q3)        Who was the only openly gay member of the team?
A3)        Graham Chapman.

Q4)        Which of the team wrote a 2006 book about barbarians?
A4)        Terry Jones.   (His book and series about the Crusades was just as interesting.   Jones allegedly played Mr Creosote: after Terry Gilliam turned it down.)

Q5)        Who was the show’s unofficial, seventh member: Douglas Adams, Connie Booth or Carol Cleveland?
A5)        Carol Cleveland.

Q6)        The show originally aired on which channel: BBC1, BBC2, or ITV?
A6)        BBC1.

Q7)        Two special episodes of the show were made.   For what’s now where: France, Germany or Austria?
A7)        Germany.

Q8)        Not including those special episodes?   Not including those specials, how many episodes were made: forty-four, forty-five or forty-six?
A8)        Forty-five.

Q9)        As a result of one Python sketch?   Junk emails are usually called what: ham, jam or spam?
A9)        Spam.   (Emails are like the Spam Sketch: you get spam with everything.)

Q10)        Finally … ?   Which Python characters frequently wear hankies on their heads: the Gumbys, the Pepperpots or the Knight?
A10)        The Gumbys.   All of the main cast played Gumbys, and pepperpots.   The chicken welding knight was played by Terry Gilliam.
Here’s a thought …
“Christianity also owes me an explanation.   For the bigotry, the wickedness, the inhumanity and the wilful ignorance which has also characterised much of its history.”
Melvin Bragg, born 6th October, 1939.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        A year … ?   That’s not surprising, Olga§: especially under the circumstances!   (My PIP case has taken some seventeen to eighteen months to get this far.)
And, yes: I was the same when I started posting to YouTube.   And I’m equally compulsive with some games, as well: I can see why people get addicted to fruit machines!

        Hell, Mum§!

I figured you might appreciate it, Debbi§¶.   And the fact some Gumbys have medical doctorates!

§        It’s funny how everyone mentioned Michael Palin …

¶        That’s a thought, Debbi: I’ve caught the first couple of episodes of Bodies.   The 2053 parts vaguely remind me of V for Vendetta

Yes, it is curious that everybody mentioned Michael Palin. I thought about John Cleese and Terry Gilliam first, but then when I came across Michael Palin, I thought, this one. Curious…
