The Daily Teaser — 3-12-2012: The Organ Donor Teaser

Now, there’s a thing … !

I’ve just had a kernel panic!

Usually, that’s the OS X equivalent of the Blue Screen of Death.

The cause is usually various software or hardware problems: although LORD knows what’s triggered this one.

And I’ll be frank … It’s the first one I’ve seen in about 8 years: which isn’t bad going, all told.

Let’s get moving on, shall we?

~~~~~~~
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi — who’s back from Richmond — putting in her answers: along with bagging 4 out of 5, she also let us know she’ll be updating us about that trip*.
Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video† …
Q1) 3rd December saw Louis Washkansky become the first person to receive a heart transplant: in which year was this … ?
Q2) More to the point … in which country was this … ?
Q3) What was the name of the doctor who performed the procedure … ?
Q4) At the time of his death in 2009, Tony Huesman was the world’s longest surviving transplant patient.   For how many years did he live, after his operation: 31, 32 or 33 years … ?
Q5) And finally … noted transplant patient, Kelly Perkins famously does what, to promote organ donation … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 2nd December, 2001, saw which company file for bankruptcy … ?
A1) Enron.
Q2) More to the point, in which Texan city was it based … ?
A2) Houston.
Q3) Two years earlier, 2nd December, 1999, saw what — within the UK — take power … ?
A3) The Northern Ireland Executive.
Q4) 2nd December, 1954, saw the US Senate censure who, for conduct unbecoming a senator … ?
A4) Joseph McCarthy.
Q5) And FINALLY … 2nd December, 1939, saw the opening of which New York airport … ?
A5) LaGuardia.
Enjoy those, everyone.
I’ll leave you with this very appropriate tune from Madness …
And this quote from a rather well known doctor …
“The prime goal is to alleviate suffering, and not to prolong life. And if your treatment does not alleviate suffering, but only prolongs life, that treatment should be stopped.”
Dr Christiaan Barnard.
Enjoy today …
*        I’m REALLY going to have to see about updating my RSS reader, Debbi: I’m going to be keeping an eye open for that … ! :D
†        As I tweeted, yesterday, it was only last night I realised that today’s Teaser video is about organ transplants … And opens with the line ‘Dinner IS PREPARED’.   The mind boggles …
