The End Of The World Teaser — 21-12-2012

Oh …

It’s officially the end of the world.

And as far I can see … ?   Nothing’s hit Earth, as yet: nor have we been eaten by a giant mutant star-goat.

Thus far, I think we can say the oncoming Apocalypse … is a huge pile of proverbial swearwords …

Let’s move on, shall we … ?

Yes …

~~~~~
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: along with which one of blogs she’s shutting down, she also managed to bag 5 out of 5.
Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, license and video …
Q1) 21st December, 2012, is assumed by many to be the end of the world.   This is based on the fact the Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar resets on that day.   The best known users of the calendar were whom?
Q2) More to the point, who’s credited with creating that calendar: the Olmec, Toltec or Aztec … ?
Q3) EQUALLY to the point, this date is at the end of a cycle of how many years: 4125, 5125 or 6125 … ?
Q4) How long — in the Long Count Calendar — was a Tun: 360 days, 7200 days or 144000 days … ?
Q5) According to some peopleª, Earth — at some point, today — will be hit by a rogue planet called what … ?
Q6) Which Roland Emmerich film is all about a disastrous 2012 … ?
Q7) Which Will Smith sci-fi film is set in 2012 … ?
Q8) And finally … In which book of the Bible do the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse appear … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
A1) Malta.
Q2) 20th December, 1968, saw Betty Lou Jenson and David Faraday killed by the Zodiac Killer.   What was the name of the 2007 film about the Zodiac killer … ?
A2) Zodiac: or Z♁diac, if you want to be arty …
Q3) 20th December, 1988, saw the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances signed.   In which European city … ?
A3) Vienna.
Q4) 20th December, 1999, saw Macau handed over to Communist China, by the country that then ruled it.   Which European country was that … ?
A4) Portugal.
Q5) And finally … 20th December 2007, saw Elizabeth 2nd become the UK’s oldest monarch,   Who was the previous holder of the honour … ?
A5) Queen Victoria.
Enjoy those, everyone.
I’ll leave you with this quote from Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman …
“In a climate-controlled cabinet in one corner was the original scroll in the shaky handwriting of St. John the Divine of Patmos, whose ‘Revelation’ had been the all-time best seller. Aziraphale had found him a nice chap, if a bit too fond of odd mushrooms.”
And I’m betting you couldn’t see this tune being played …
*        Still seems a shame, though, Debbi!   Oh … A certain TV show’s getting shown in the UK. at 5·15, Christmas Day: thought you might want to know … … …
ª        The woman that first wrote about the planet claimed she’d been told about it by aliens: who communicated with her through an implant in her brain.   Quit laughing, this is SERIOUS … !!!
