The Daily Teaser — 21-8-2014: The Shogun

Did I tell you I have an iPod … ?

A much repaired fourth generation one: but I’m not complaining.

Mostly … ?

Well, mostly because it syncs nicely with my AppleTV set top box.

That And the iPod version of iPlayer?   Means I can happily catch up last night’s episode of Dead Ringers.

You can never get enough of Jon Culshaw’s version of Tom Baker, can you … ?

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Shogunate questions, shall we?

Q8) The feudal lords protected by those knights were called what: dame, dumb or daimyo … ?
Q9) Moving on, again: which car company produces the Shogun range of SUVs and trucks … ?
Q10) And finally … who wrote the 1975 novel, Shogun … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 20th August saw the birth of writer, H. P. Lovecraft.   What did the P stand for?
A1) Phillips.

Q5) Lovecraft was a regular contributor to Weird Tales Magazines.   Made from cheap paper, Weird Tales — and magazines like it — were consequently known as what: pulps, rags or glossies?
A5) Pulp magazines.   (Lots of early American crime, horror, fantasy and science fiction was published in pulps.   Erle Stanley Gardner, creator of Perry Mason, got his start in crime pulps: and Conan the Barbarian was another star of Weird Tales.   What’s more, sci-fi pulp, Astounding, which kick-started many well known writers, is still going.   Then there’s the Tijuana bibles.   You don’t want to ask about the Tijuana bibles … )
Q6) One of H. P’s best known works — The Call of Cthulhu — was turned in a silent film.   In which year of this century: 2004, 2005 or 2006?

Q10) Finally … Lovecraft’s fictional universe is known as the Cthulhu … what?
A10) Cthulhu Mythos.
I’ll leave you with this potted history …

And this thought …
“The strong manly ones in life are those who understand the meaning of the word patience.”
Tokugawa Ieyasu, a later Shogun.
Enjoy your day …
