The Daily Teaser — 15-9-2015

Right, I think I’ve got a plan … !

You’ve possible been following me for a while: at least I hope so.

And following me for long enough to know I not Mr Patient.

I have a TV: one with just one HDMI port.   As I’d wanted to add high-definition channels — and back-up recording options — I bought a cheap set-top box, an extra couple of HDMI cables … and a switch.

So I could plug two devices into the one port on my telly.

I got impatient: as the switch I’d ordered when I ordered the set top box was taking its own sweet time.

So I ordered another: on Friday, just gone.

That … ?   Along with a couple of books and DVDs, turned up yesterday.

Which is why I say I’ve got a bit of a plan.

I’ve got the day off, today.   Shopping’s done, Teasers written and had the matching videos made …

Which means I’ve the time to set the thing up.   Here’s hoping I’ve got a spare bit of TV aerial cable … !

~≈Ê≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in there answers: with both scoring five out of five, it also saw Debbi managing to help improve my accuracy!

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 15th September, 1978, saw the arrest of Astrid Proll: in London.   Famously, Proll was a member of which terrorist group?
Q2) 15th September, 767 saw the birth of the Japanese monk, Saichō.   Which drink is he credited with introducing to Japan?
Q3) 15th September, 1254, saw the birth of Italian explorer and cartographer, Marco Polo.   Which Italian city-state was Marco from?
Q4) 15th September, 1935, saw Nazi Germany introduce the Nuremberg Laws.   Who did the laws deprive of citizenship: German Roma, Afro-Caribbean Germans or German Jews?
Q5) Finally … who became the first Soviet leader to visit the US: on 15th September, 1959?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Microsoft released which version of its Windows operating system on 14th September, 2000: ME, XP or NT?
A1) ME.
Q2) After a referendum on 14th September, 2003, which Baltic state voted to join the European Union?
A2) Estonia.
Q3) During the Recession of the 21st Century, which UK bank suffered a serious run, on 14th September, 2007: HSBC, Northern Rock or Barclays?
Q4) Tonga joined the United Nations: on the 14th September, 1999.   Tonga is in which ocean: the Atlantic, Pacific or Indian?
A4) The Pacific.
Q5) Finally … Princess Grace — Grace Kelly, as was — died in a car crash on 14th September, 1982.   Who played her in the 2014 film, Grace of Monaco?
A5) Nicole Kidman.   (As I recall, noted film critic, Mark Kermode was … unflattering …about the piece …)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“If the special effect is created very well, most people don’t think whether it’s mechanical or not – they’re thinking about the story.”

Special effects man, Carlo Rambaldi, September 15, 1925 – August 10, 2012.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        Hellraiser, you mean, Olga?   It’s an interesting little movie: especially when you consider that the chap who wrote the book it’s based on — Clive Barker — is ALSO the guy that directed the movie.   As far as I know, that’s not something that’s often happens …

†        It’s definitely a good one to watch, Debbi: it’s ALSO on the US iTunes store, but not the UK one.   Wouldn’t you know it!   (Oh, you’re right, it’s 2007: I’ve managed to correct that … !)

Looking forward to your update on the TV issue. I've never read the author either, not sure why as I like horror...
