Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-8-2016

Oh, I hate those long shifts …

I know I was moaning about it, yesterday: and HATE to repeat myself.

But … ?

Somewhere in the works of Sir Terry Pratchett — and I forget which book — is a  throwaway line about getting drunk: along the line of having ‘red-hot curried eyeballs.’

Well, I’ll HAPPILY admit to not being a drinker.

For about a decade and a half, since you ask.

But, right now?

After a shift like last night’s?

I THINK I know what Sir Terry meant.

I think an afternoon nap’s going to be providing some metaphorical, and very welcome, yoghurt!

~≈®≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?   As I’s got the caffeine from my second mug of tea going through my veins.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.   The day ALSO saw Angel† popping in to offer her sympathies.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 21st August, 1937, was the last day of the Universal Congress of Universal Documentation.   The Congress’s main resolution was that information should be made universally available, on what: microfilm, the ’net or stone tablets?
Q2) Hawaii was named as the 50th state of the USA: on 21st August, 19596.   What’s the capital of Hawaii?
Q3) The August Coup collapsed: on 21st August, 1991.   The Coup was aimed at toppling the government of the USSR.   The government led by whom?
Q4) During the Jacobite Rebellion, 21st August, 1689, was the date of the Battle of Dunkeld.   The Battle took place in which country of the UK?
Q5) Finally … 21st August, 1952, saw the birth of singer, songwriter and guitarist, Joe Strummer.   With which punk band did he first come to prominence?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) A Spanish army was defeated by an Austrian one: on 20th August, 1710.   During the Battle of where: Barcelona, Granada or Saragossa?
A1) Saragossa: or Zaragoza.   (My Spanish is hopeless: I couldn’t even tell you how to pronounce it!)
Q2) The Voyager 1 probe was launched by NASA: on 20th August, 1975.   NASA launched the Voyager 2 probe on 20th August of which year?
A2) 1977.
Q3) Canada’s Supreme Court made a ruling: on 20th August, 1998.   The ruling meant which province couldn’t secede?
A3) Quebec.   (At least, the ruling meant Quebec couldn’t secede, without the approval of Canada’s Federal Government.   As I recall, this is as contentious as Scottish independence, AND Brexit.)
Q4) 20th August, 1890, saw the birth of horror writer, H. P. Lovecraft.   In which Rhode Island city?
Q5) Finally … Senegal declared itself independent of the Mali Federation: on 20th August of which year?
A5) 1960.
I’ll leave you with thought …
“When you blame yourself, you learn from it. If you blame someone else, you don’t learn nothing, cause hey, it’s not your fault, it’s his fault, over there.”
Joe Strummer, 21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002.
And this tune …

Have a good day!

*        Oh, I’ll keep an eye peeled for that, Debbi‡!   (I’ve volunteered to do a movie write up for an indie film, myself!   Here’s hoping!   And good luck for yours!)

†        Oh, LORDY, Angel!   Don’t you just love it, when management tell you what’s going on!   I know I had to have a quiet word with my boss: shifts like that can be murder, can’t they?   Especially if you’re not an Olympic endurance athlete!   At ANY rate, enjoy Sunday.   Feel free to bookmark the blog, just in case I forget to Tweet you, tomorrow!

‡        Actually, Debbi, did I tell you someone did a film version of Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu, a few years ago?   I’d love to see it, but it keeps bobbing up and down on iTunes, like a fishing float!

I do have your site bookmarked. Sometimes I get so busy that I don't get to the bookmark bar, so I really appreciate when you give me that reminder tweet. I'm enjoying Sunday. Watching the Blue Jays game. They're ahead at the bottom of the 8th with Indians at bat now. 1 run ahead, so no cushion to guarantee win.
