Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-8-2016

CRAP … !

I’ve got up late!

I HATE getting up late!

That’s what happens when you can’t get to sleep, after a movie, and forget to set your alarm!

AAARRRGGGHHH … !

~≈®≈~

With an admission of lateness as an opening?

Let’s move on!

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† pouting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) George Villiers was assassinated on 23rd August, 1628: by a chap called John Felton.   Villiers was the first Duke of where: Avon, Buckingham or Essex?
Q2) George 3rd of Great Britain made his Proclamation of Rebellion: 23rd August, 1775.   In it, the King declared that Britain’s colonies, where, were in avowed rebellion?
Q3) 23rd August, 1961, saw Michael Gregsten found dead on the A6: along side the seriously injured Valerie Storie.   Who was convicted of the attack?
Q4) The Albert Bridge, over the River Thames, formally opened on 23rd August, 1873.   What road goes over it: the A303, the A3031 or the A 3071?
Q5) Finally … 23rd August, 1991, saw new users access what, for the first time?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Saint Columba is said to have spotted the Loch Ness Monster: on 22nd August of which year?
A1) 565AD.   Although my earlier Teaser said it was 564 AD.
Q2) Twelve nations signed the First Geneva Convention: on 22nd August.   The 22nd August of which year?
A2) 1864.
Q3) The world’s only successful slave revolt started: on 22nd August, 1791.   In what’s now which country?
A3) Haiti.   (If I’ve understood things correctly?   What’s now Haiti was then Saint Domingue: a French colony.   Given the French had started to revolt in 1789?   And that the people of France beheaded their monarchy the following year?   The Haitian slaves, quite understandably, grabbed every chance they could.)
Q4) With four days to go, 22nd August, 1972, saw which (then) country kicked out of the 1972 Summer Olympics?
A4) Rhodesia.
Q5) Finally … Jacob Barsimson arrived in New Amsterdam: on 22nd August, 1654.   He was the first known person of which background, to arrive in what’s now the USA: Chinese, Jewish or Middle Eastern?
A5) Jewish.   (He’s recorded as having been summoned before the New Amsterdam Courts, on a Saturday: but was let off, as “yet no default is entered against him, as he was summoned on his Sabbath.”)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“When you see the name ‘River Phoenix’ everywhere; you gotta, like, joke about it.”
River Phoenix, August 23, 1970 – October 31, 1993.
And this tune …

Have a good day: don’t oversleep!!!!

*        I’ve said it before, Olga, and I’ll say it again: fandom’s international!   I do know Peter Capaldi — Dr Who, number 12 — and Jenna Coleman, then the companion, Clara, did a big international tour, just as he started in the role.   I don’t know who was more amazed at the number of countries they stopped at, me, or them … !   And the Cthulhu Mythos is JUST as international: I don’t if HP knew quite what he started, back in the 1920s … !

†        It’d probably would, actually, Debbi: I’m ALSO half convinced the Cthulhu by Gaslight rules had an knock-on effect on the whole steampunk movement.   At ANY rate … ?   The Bond films and novels have always had an odd view of woman, haven’t they?   I have to admit I loved Eva Green as Vesper Lynd: she’s possibly the best screen actress of her generation.   At least, the one with the best speaking voice … !   (How did I KNOW you’d mention Diana Rigg? :D )

5. World Wide Web

I was confused with the wording for question #2, so I probably gave more info than needed. lol I wish I could wake up late to get a little extra sleep in. Maybe tomorrow I'll forget to bring my phone into the room. hehehe

Wow! That's a lot of Cthulhu history, etc., there! :)

And of course, I had to mention Diana Rigg. Only because she's awesome! And, as a child, I wanted to be Mrs. Peel when I grew up! :)

1. Buckingham
2. America (but it's all water under the bridge, right? ;))
3. James Hanratty
4. the A3031
5. Freax (I guess -- it led to the creation of Linux, right? :))

Sleep is good. Waking can be hard. :)

FYI, I've added "Good Omens" to my ever-growing TBR list! Ack! :)
