Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-11-2016

You know, it’s not often I comment on the US election.

Apparently?   A Judge in Ohio — if I’ve heard correctly —  has issued restraining orders to several members of the Trump team, and one of his advisors.

To prevent them intimidating members of the public who are voting early.

Fair play to that judge.

That’s the first time I’ve heard of something like that going on …

Outside certain corrupt governments in parts of Africa and Asia.

Go figure … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi scoring four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) In the UK, 5th November is Guy Fawkes Night.   It marks the Gunpowder Plot of which year: 1604, 1605 or 1606?
Q2) Jaffer Sharif-Emami stepped down as Prime Minister: on 5th November, 1978.   As Prime Minister of where?
Q3) Sidney Reilly was executed on 5th November, 1925.   Reilly was working as a British what, at the time?
Q4) 5th November, 1991, saw the death of newspaper magnate, Robert Maxwell.   He went overboard: and drowned in which ocean?
Q5) Finally … who was elected as US president: on 5th November, 1912?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 4th November, 1995, saw the Israeli Prime Minister assassinated: by an Israeli extremist.   Which Israeli prime minister?
Q2) 4th November saw the US government establish the National Security Agency, or NSA.   In which year of the 1950s?
A2) 1952.
Q3) Roughly 90 people were taken hostage by Islamic militants: on 4th November, 1979.   The hostages were taken in Tehran.   From where: the Soviet Embassy, the US Embassy or the UK Consulate?
A3) The US Embassy.
Q4) Sir James Young Simpson discovered the anesthetic properties of trichloromethane: on 4th November, 1847.   Trichloromethane is also known as what?
Q5) Finally … German forces went into retreat during the Second Battle of El Alamein: on 4th November, 1942.   Who was leading the German forces?
A5) Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Now my own suspicion is that the Universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose.”
J. B. S. Haldane, 5 November 1892 – 1 December 1964.
And this song …

Have a good day!

*        I will, Olga, I will … !   (I still got the ODD twang … but it’s seriously improved on how it was … )

†        Yeah: strikes me I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, Debbi!
