Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-5-2017: One Knight in New York

Hmmm …

That’s going to be interesting.

I’m something of a sci-fi fan.

And one who grew up, reading Britain’s best loved comic, 2000AD.

Home of the lawman of the future, Judge Dredd.

I grew up on the ever-so-slightly right wing lawman: and watched the films with interest.

So, browsing through the BBC’s news site, yesterday, and reading someone’s planning to make a TV show of the series?

Certainly grabbed my attention.

I’m looking forward to seeing that.

I just hope it’s easily accessible.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s teaser saw Mr Strict*, Olga†, Angel‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Mr Strict, Olga and Debbi, scoring five out of five, and Angel scoring four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Garry Kasparov played the last of a series of Chess games on 11th May.   Of which year of the 1990s: 1995, 1997 or 1999?
Q2) Which game was it: the fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth?
Q3) What was the name of the computer: Deep Thought, Deep Throat or Deep Blue?
Q4) Who built the computer: NEC, IBM or SGI?
Q5) The type of software on the computer is what’s called artificial … what?
Q6) This game was the last in the second Kasparov vs the machine series.   The first was in which year: 1994, 1996 or 1998?
Q7) Who won the first series: Kasparov or the Machine?
Q8) More to the point, who won this second series: Kasparov or the Machine?
Q9) The most recent World Chess Computer Championship was held in Leiden, in 2016.   And won by a computer called what what: Komodo, Kimono or Syberiad?
Q10) Finally … what’s the Japanese equivalent to Chess called?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 10th May, 1824, saw the opening of the UK’s National Gallery.   It’s in which London Square?
Q2) It’s therefore, where: Hackney, the City of London, or the City of Westminster?
Q3) The current Gallery is in which of it’s buildings: the first, second or third?
A3) The third.
Q4) Gabriele Finaldi is the National Gallery’s current what?
A4) Director.
Q5) Finally … what’s the nearest overground station to the Gallery?
Here’s a thought …
“Chess could be crunched by brute force once algorithms got smart enough, but it didn’t offer the dreamt-of insights into the mysteries of human intelligence.”
Garry Kasparov.
And a tune …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a nice day …

*        Welcome back, Mr S: nice to see you onboard … !

†        Welcome back, Olga, nice to have you back on-board … !   How WAS the Fair … ?   I’m just hoping sales went for you!   And yes … the job situation’s a pain in the proverbial: it’s one I’d rather not lose out on.   Here’s hoping I can scrounge up extra shifts, or find an alternative!   Take it easy!

‡        Welcome back, Angel: nice to see you back in the saddle!   Oh, I know this piece has been doing the rounds …

^        Rotten is possibly under-stating it, Debbi … !   It went past a bit quick: but I THINK the BBC news channel mentioned the FBI Russia investigation put in for more funds, a few days ago … just before Director Comey got the elbow … (I’ve been using copy and paste a lot … !)

I was in the general table although I sold more of my books than I expected (especially as most of the copies I had were in English). The problem was that although we sold books, we were also trying to run a food event to attract people and they were not interested (I guess it was too expensive) so in the end we'll be in the red...
Good luck with work.
