Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-4-2017

Wowsa …

I’ve actually got the day off, today …

Well, actually, I’ve booked it off: as annual leave.

Basically?   Yesterday was my Mum’s birthday: so we’re having a posh — ish — family meal,  tonight.

Happy Belated Birthday, Mum!

Oh …

Just as a thought?

I managed to celebrate Star Wars Day, yesterday.

By watching Star Trek Beyond.

Which sounds odd, I know.

Until you realise I’ve seen most of the Star Wars franchise, already: having caught Rogue One just recently.

But I’m very aware Star Wars did science-fiction a huge favour.

Up until the original film was released?

Science fiction was something of a joke genre.   Even given the existence of things like 2001: A Space Odyssey: the good science fiction movie.

After Star Wars … ?

Hollywood had to take science fiction seriously.

It makes money

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.   The day also saw Olga† and Trevor‡ looking in to saw hello.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 5th May, 1912, saw the first publication of which well known Russian newspaper?
Q2) The 500, 000th person to receive a polio vaccine in Britain, did so on 5th May, 1955.   In the presence of which famous doctor?
Q3) 5th May, 1936, saw troops from where, occupy Addis Ababa?
Q4) 5th May, 1941, saw the Ethiopian Emperor return to Addis Ababa: five years after it had been occupied.   Which Emperor?
Q5) Finally … Lance Henriksen was born: on 5th May, 1940.   In which TV series did he play Frank Black?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 4th May is Star Wars Day.   The day’s based on a pun: “May the … ” what “be with you” … ?
A1) Fourth.
Q2) It’s based on one of the franchise’s catchphrases: “May the … ” what “be with you” … ?
A2) Force.
Q3) The light side of that word is used by the franchise’s Jedi knights.   The dark side is used by who?
A3) The Sith.   (Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine,  and Darth Maul are Sith.)
Q4) The pun was used in a parliamentary debate: on 4th May of which year of the 1990s?
A4) 1994.
Q5) Finally … ?  Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the most recent Star Wars film.   The latest, episode eight, will be released in December, 2017.   What’s that film called?
A5) Star Wars: The Last Jedi.   (Captain Phasma will, yet again, be criminally underused: after all, Gwendoline Christie does a great Wookie! )
I’ll leave you with a thought …
“I would love to play your common, everyday guy, but I never get cast as that.”
Richard E. Grant, born 5th May, 1957.
It’s ALSO Delia Derbyshire: she’s the woman’s responsible of the arrangement of the Dr Who theme tune …

And also did this …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day!

*        You’ve not seen Rogue One or Force Awakens, Debbi?   It’s a shame, they’re better movies, I think.   The prequels are … debatable … I always think.   And I have half an idea they were a bit rushed.   Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy were out at the same time, and got a heck of a lot of good attention.   Anything else looked pale in comparison!   Oh, I did look in on the post: rather good!   I couldn’t leave a comment, though: the ‘Comment’ button seems to have vanished!   (Oh … we now hove more Tories at a country level … )

†        I’ll look forward to having you back on board, Olga: and I’ve something else with a Star Wars theme, planned.   Keep ’em peeled … !

‡        Well, the results are in, Trevor: we now have more Tories … …
