Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-2-2019: The Crash

Yes: I’ve had the bad news from BT.

I’ve not been picked for a second interview.

I am … 

Not surprised, somehow.

As the next stage of the process was the online assessment I took, yesterday.

It was one of those with three components.

Part one’s a timed numeracy and detail matching test.

I get the feeling I do well on these: any deficiencies on the time I believe is countered by my basic ability with maths and detail.

Part two?

An audio based section on customer services that, again, I think I did well with.   Especially after this many years in customer facing roles.

Part three?

Was one of those tests where you get a series of statements, with with a range of multiple answers: ranging from ‘Strongly Agree’ to ‘Strongly Disagree’.

I hate these tests: and never get through them.

Tests like these are something I don’t know how to navigate: or, at least, navigate with a good enough result to counter any of my failings in the first and second parts.

Frankly?

My next appointment with the Job Centre is tomorrow.

I think I might want a LONG chat with my work coach.

†        I’d imagine you’d need good eyesight to repair mobile screens, Olga: I’d imagine if you’re good at war-games modelling — building tin soldiers, in other words — you’d have an advantage.   As for BT : well … … (Oh, Ridley Scott^ worked on a separate version of Dune: one that inherited some of the Jodorowsky designers, but eventually turned into the Lynch version.   There’s a new version dueª.)

‡        Sounds like it, Debbi!   (Oh, David did the most recent version of Dune, back in the eighties: I think that’s where he started hiring Kyle McLachlan on a regular basis.   There’s a new version dueª.)

^        I believe that’s where he met — or was introduced to — Chris Foss and H. R. Giger, two of the key designers for Alien.

ª        Given the Jodorowsky and Scott versions never got made, and the Lynch version has … mixed reviews … ?   I have my doubts about the Villeneuve version.   What I’ve seen of the cast look good: although I’m not sure about casting Stellan Skarsgård as Vladimir Harkonnen.   The Baron’s obese: Skarsgård isn’t.
