Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-5-2019: Liberace

16th May, 2019.

There’s a couple of things, this morning.

One?

I’m now having to break into the longlife milk: as I’ve run out of the regular sort.

Not nice, but it’ll do for now.

Two … ?

I actually had a clean out of some of my cupboards, yesterday.

It’s amazing the amount of crap you build up.

Crap … with pre-war sell by dates!

At any rate … ?

I’m wondering this.

Where did all those cups and saucers come?

And why on Earth do I have a plate with a cheesy 1970s cow on it … ?

A Cheesy Cow Plate

~≈§≈~

Let’s get a shift on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf*, Olga†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five: and Anne on three..

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 16th May, 1919, saw the birth of Liberace.   What was his full, birth name?
Q2) He started playing piano at how old?
Q3) Liberace’s nickname was Mr … what?
Q4) Liberace played a coffin salesman in a 1965 film called … what?
Q5) Finally, his TV show first aired in 1952.   What was it called?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 15th May, 1991, saw Édith Cresson named as the first female Prime Minister of where?
A1) France.
Q2) 15th May, 1957, saw the UK drop its first H-bomb.   Over which island?
A2) Malden Island.   (It seems the test was launched from Christmas Island, and fired over Malden Island: hence the inconsistency between the Wikipedia entry, and the BBC one.)
Q3) Arsenal Football club earned the nickname, “the Invincibles,” on 15th May, 2004: for completing a season with no lost games.   Who is the only other team to do this?
Q4) 15th May was one of four days of the year that the Ancient Romans would celebrate the Argei ritual.   This involved throwing straw effigies into which river?
A4) The Tiber.
Q5) Finally … ?   15th May is the feast day of Saint Isidore the Labourer.   He’s the patron saint of whom: Farmers, bricklayers or furniture polishers?
A5) Farmers.
Here’s a thought …
“Too many young performers have forgotten that the most important part of show business is not the second word, it’s the first. Without the show there’s no business.”
Liberace.
And a performance …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Morning, Badwolf!   I might just sit in with a few, Anne: they look … interesting silly …

†        Power of the press, I think, Olga.   Wave a mic at someone, and it’s guaranteed to get them talking.   At least, if local politicians are anything like my nephew … … !   At ANY rate … I think someone has done a study, according to Wikipedia.   Or at least, a documentary: the BBC did something a few years ago …

‡        That it was, Debbi!   Oh, have you ever heard of a documentary called VHS Massacre: Cult Films and the Decline of Physical Media?   I watched it last night: it strikes me it’s up your street.   It’s about how the format changes we’ve had over the past few years, are affecting indie movies.

Forgot to ask. When you say "pre-war", which war do you mean? :)
